Check Out LaTrecia Mallet’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaTrecia Mallet.

Hi LaTrecia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Trecia Mallet and I am the Owner and Director of Xtreme Level Dance & Fitness Studio in Pearland, Texas. Dance has always been my first love with a lifelong mission to develop diversely trained young dancers while building self-confidence, passion and a higher level of respect for the art of movement, how it benefits the body as well as serving the community. My journey began at the age of 3 dancing at local studios and grade school which later progressed to earning a spot on Texas Southern University’s “Motion of the Ocean” dance team for 4 years, serving as Captain and a professional career in dance post college.

During my professional career as a dancer I toured in Korea, Italy, Spain, Germany, Jordan, Turkey, and Belgium performing for our military (US Army) while also making time to provide service to the children of the Armed Forces by hosting dance workshops and choreography clinics. I have been featured on the hit VH1 TV Show “Bring It”, Bridezilla, MTV’s “Made” and “America’s Best Dance Crew” (ABDC). I was the Founder of “X-Treme Motion Dance Crew” featured on ABDC, where we were voted as one of Americas top dance groups from the south, and known for our unique signature hip-hop style of dance called “Bucking”. X-Treme Motion made history as the First All Female Dance Crew to be featured on the show as well as the first HBCU Dance Team to become a professional dance crew.

Having worked with many professional leagues, including the WBNA, NFL, ABA, SIFL, AFL, and the MLS, this later landed numerous opportunities dancing and choreographing for professional artists including LeToya Luckett, J.Holiday, Tamar Davis and Adassa on tours with headlining artist R. Kelly, Neyo, Keyshia Cole, Nina Sky and Lloyd Banks.

Post touring as a dancer I returned to Houston as full-time dance instructor with the Houston Independent School District before opening my award-winning dance studio, Xtreme Level Dance & Fitness Studio, in 2012. Through my experience as a dance director and studio owner I discovered the need for a program to support and empower dancers to further their training with industry professionals but were unable to due to affordability and exposure to the professional art form.
In 2023, I founded the Community Arts Project, LLC. to award deserving dancers scholarships to further their dance education around the world with some of the nations top industry professionals and programs. Through the Community Arts Project’s scholarship program, dancers are awarded to opportunity to train at top programs and attend national conventions and undergraduate programs at chosen Historically Black Colleges & Universities.

Now pursuing studies in Physical Therapy and Sports Psychology, I am Celebrating 13 years in business and over two decades of professional dance experience remaining dedicated to elevating the next generation of dancers to go beyond technique and develop life skills to become more confident and respectful young artist who share their gifts with the community. . Through my mentorship, passion for dance arts and fitness, it’s my goal to continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible in dance education, health, wellness and performance.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Owning a dance studio has always been more than just a business for me—it’s a calling. It’s about creating a safe space where children can express themselves, build confidence, and experience joy through movement.
But in recent years, it’s become increasingly difficult to keep this dream alive. Many families are facing financial hardships, and studio tuition—though necessary to keep our doors open—can be a burden. We understand this, because we see the weight kids carry every day:

They’re managing overwhelming school expectations.

They’re coping with mental health struggles and instability at home.

They’re pulled in a dozen directions with sports, school, and other commitments.

And with constant access to technology and social media, their self-esteem and focus are often under attack.

In the studio, we witness the emotional exhaustion in their eyes—but also the light that comes back when the music starts. That’s why we fight so hard to keep going. This space is more than just dance. It’s where kids find belonging, mentorship, emotional release, and the rare chance to simply be themselves.

It has definitely not been easy or a smooth road building a business centered around children and their overall growth not only in dance but also gaining life skills that will carry with them as they get older, but with time comes experience and we’re bridging the gap with keeping lines of communication open with parents and dancer, offering scholarships, flexible payment plans, community partnerships and continued education.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Xtreme Level Dance & Fitness Studio we offer a variety of recreational & competitive classes for kids, teens and adults but we have been known for our high-energy and creative Hip Hop & Musical Theatre routines. We have an amazing choreography and creative team that continues to set the bar for what we bring to the stage each year.

Our routines have won many regional and national titles including one of our highest accomplishments of being nominated for Best Hip Hop with the Industry Dance Awards 3 years in a row. This organization focuses on recognizing the outstanding achievements in competitive dance and honors the artistry and dedication of dancers from studios nationwide, offering a platform where the pinnacle of dance competition is celebrated.

One of the things that sets our program apart from other is not only the creative work we produce with our students but also building our dancers to become creatives and work professionally at their young age as many of them are currently touring nationally while pursuing studies in grade school and college.

Beyond the kids, another thing that sets our studio apart from others is the launching of our Xtreme Fit Club. We built out a fully equipped gym in our studio full of cardio & strengthening machines that our parents have FREE access to while their kids are training in dance classes. We have also created a parent dance team called “The Original Generation Creaux”. This not only built a sense of community with our parents but also continued the goal of our business of building healthier live one move at a time.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I believe the next decade in dance blends innovation with empathy. There is a rising demand for online classes driven by convenience of flexible scheduling, home fitness, and adaptive dance offerings making the art form accessible to diverse body types, abilities, and cultural backgrounds through mobile-first platforms and subscription models for growth both creatively and commercially.
The shifts I plan to make for Xtreme Level Dance & Fitness Studio is just that. Expansion into homes through online classes and continued dance education activity branding for early childhood dancers.
