Exploring Life & Business with Yvette Barboza of Balloominous Events

Hi, my name is Yvette and I am the owner and founder of Balloominous Events. I grew up on the northside of town and had a pretty normal upbringing. I am the second of 4 children and I have a deep love for painting, art, music and enjoy crafting.

My love for decorating definitively comes from my childhood, specifically my early teenage years. I loved helping my mother decorate and redecorate our home, especially for special occasions and holidays. I just found comfort in creating an atmosphere that felt celebratory. It makes me happy! The passion for event planning, balloon artistry and event decor styling became more apparent when I became a mom. After planning, decorating and executing numerous parties for my eldest child, I knew this was just something I had grown to enjoy. Over the years, I found myself decorating more and more, especially using balloons and banners that I made myself. I watched countless you-tube videos and practiced every chance I had! Fast forward to a couple years ago. This is when my creativity and skill for balloon work was being noticed by others. I started planning and decorating all of our staff parties at work, and one day a good friend finally convinced me to just take a leap of faith and suggested I should start a business. I have to admit that the thought of where to even start made me a little nervous. I had a full-time job, a family and I did not want to become overwhelmed with trying to maintain a healthy work life balance. Ultimately, I decided to give it a try and I officially launched my balloon decorating business in 2023 as a self-taught balloon artist. This journey has been lots of hard work, sleepless nights and dedication to the craft. The results have been amazing thus far. I have been lucky to have a group of mentors that have been here to guide and encourage me every step of the way.I still look back sometimes and think, what if I had never started this journey. I wouldn’t have the opportunity to learn the things I have, made the mistakes that turned into valuable lessons, or received the blessings that were meant for me to succeed and keep pushing forward.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like with any business, we had a few hurdles to jump and a few kinks to work out. Overall it has been a smooth business venture and I look forward to our continued growth.

Balloominous Events was started with the hopes of making every single detail matter. We are here to provide a stress-free process to our clients from start to finish. At Balloominous, we offer a wide range of services that include balloon décor, intimate event planning, event setup, rentals, a candy buffet service called the Sugary and so much more!

Since I started Balloominous a couple of years ago, giving back to the community has been a huge part of my business journey. It has always been a passion of mine to help others. I am paying it forward in the way I know will bring joy and memorable moments to others. We have collaborated and given in-kind donations ranging from balloon garlands and event installations to our candy buffet set-ups both within and outside of our community, especially to local schools. This December, we will be donating an installation to the Oak Forest Foster Closet which is located within the Oak Forest neighborhood. This will be one of our biggest donations to date and we couldn’t be more excited! We also offer special discounts to educational entities and staff, healthcare workers and first responders.

As a mother of 4 children, a full-time business owner and having a 9-5 full time job, it can be difficult to find the time to sit and open a book. However, I have found business vlogs to be a great resource.
