Rising Stars: Meet Dr. Tameitha Hicks of Houston and Chicago

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Tameitha Hicks.

Hi Dr. Tameitha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a proud HBCU graduate and a dual degree holder with a PhD, MSW and BSW in Social Work. I am a seasoned social worker with extensive knowledge in mental health, juvenile justice and child welfare. Social work is a profession in which trained professionals are devoted to helping people and communities work through challenges they face personally and professionally. I specifically wanted to empower minority women in these areas. Social Work defined my goals with my organization. That’s the power of Black women-led organizations. We are not just addressing challenges, we are creating opportunities, empowering communities, and changing lives.

The 300 Black Women Awards is a ceremony dedicated to celebrating the remarkable achievements and contributions of African Americans in various fields, including Medicine, Education, Law, Arts, Culture, Religion, and Business. This year, in a special tribute to 11 years of Excellence, we celebrated 30 phenomenal women who have made impactful strides and demonstrated outstanding dedication in their respective areas.
By highlighting these exceptional women, the awards not only recognize their individual accomplishments but also serve as a beacon of inspiration, encouraging others in the community to pursue their goals with passion and determination. Each honoree exemplifies excellence through leadership, innovation, and service, setting a powerful example for future generations.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’m so grateful for all the opportunities that come my way but the support of such incredible women has been the biggest blessing of all. Women that have supported just because. Women that have referred others just because. Are all testaments of how amazing this journey has been. We have celebrated 11 years as a successful organization. We have had some struggles but none compare to the success overall.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m Tammy Hicks, a private practitioner passionate about curating events that celebrate Black Women that are both elegant and deeply personal. To me, our award ceremonies are more than just a event—it’s a powerful form of self-expression that allows individuals to tell their unique stories. With 15 years of experience in curating events that celebrate Black Women, I specialize in creating networking opportunities for Black Women for professional growth and support. My approach is all about finding the perfect balance between life and sistership. My goal overall would be that every event feels authentic and empowering.

What are your plans for the future?
As the current climate continues to devastate our communities, our future plans are to continue to celebrate the experiences and voices of Black women and girls that are often erased and forgotten. Our Gala and Awards ceremonies play a vital role in recognizing and celebrating excellence. They provide nominees with invaluable exposure, foster community growth, and set high standards that inspire others.
