An Inspired Chat with Chef Nedra Harris

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Chef Nedra Harris. Check out our conversation below.

Chef, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Recently, I just traveled to Vietnam for a month and a half to learn and study the cuisine and culture of food

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a celebrity. Private chef was featured on hit TV show Hells Kitchen Fox season 11. I am currently a private chef in Houston in restaurant, consulting, catering to wealthy people and new restaurant in assistant owners.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My family taught me how to have a great work ethic being that we were the first black African-American family in Detroit Michigan in the early 60s to own a fish market by my grandparents and growing up seeing my father as CHEF and my mom a great cook so it runs in the family

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, when my mom was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2015 I was ready to stop becoming a chef because of the bad processed food after digging more into holistic lifestyle. I implement it a gluten-free diet along with different supplements to ensure of having quality food.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie that my industry tell people who go to culinary school is that they are chefs when they’re finished and you don’t become a chef until you work for a big corporation who has deemed you to be a chef with years of experience and pay that comes with the culinary school do not teach you how to become a chef

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I am an awesome person. A great cook a world funniest outgoing, chef who travels the world and create memorable experience to families, friends, and loved ones.
