Kati Johnson of Southbelt on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Kati Johnson shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Kati, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
I have built my career on affordable prices. This is very important to me because photography is a luxury not a necessity. Choosing to make my service affordable comes with challenges. Im a small business owner, so I still have to make ends meet. Yet, I still make sure everyone can afford and enjoy the art of photoshoots. This is my passion. I have so much patience. I love what I do.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Kati. I have been a professional photographer for 12 years. I went to San Jac for photography. I specialize in outdoor sessions. Family, birthday and special occasions.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before becoming a photographer, I became a mom. My son was diagnosed with autism and I knew I had to do something that would help me be hands on with him, while working to provide at the same time. This has been such a wonderful blessing.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There have been plenty of days where I have wanted to give up. In 2020 I had to close my studio due to covid and I thought I would never be able to shoot again. I start another small business making beef jerky to help with the cut of photos. Now we are fully back and working but only outdoors. Now, I prefer.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My kids are definitely the thing I value the most. They mean everything to me. They are the reason of never giving up.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
I believe if I retired tomorrow, people would miss my flexibility, prices and turn around time.
