Story & Lesson Highlights with Daniel Egwede of Houston, TX

We recently had the chance to connect with Daniel Egwede and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniel, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I recently signed up to sing at assisted living facilities (of all things—bless their hearts), and it definitely brings me a lot of joy, even though I often feel like I hardly know what I’m doing!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Daniel E., @iamdaniel.e across all social media platforms. I am a professional comedian and event host, also known as a compère (if you eat your sushi with chopsticks). I have also appeared in a few movies.

As an entertainer, my main goal has always been to make people happy, whether I have the honor of hosting your wedding, telling jokes at your gala, or appearing in a sketch or movie that you watch. I take great pride in my work, so I like to believe I put in a lot of effort to ensure that my customers (you) are always satisfied.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
Most of what I know about work comes from my parents. However, now that I’ve taken care of the basics, I’ve also learned a great deal from Burna Boy. Go ahead and judge me if you want.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
The one thing I would tell my younger self, if I could, would be, ‘Don’t be too hard on yourself, because someday someone’s going to make a movie called Avengers: Endgame, and it will all make sense’ (gosh, I love that movie!). Also, don’t watch too much anime!

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
I’ve always believed that bad people tend to be bad regardless of race, religion, or gender, just as good people tend to be good, and that it’s unfair to make generalizations about any group or demographic.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when my customers are genuinely satisfied with the service I have provided.
