Hidden Gems: Meet Jonathan Caesar of Green Shore Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Caesar.

Hi Jonathan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started out as a teacher in the same school district where I graduated. I learned quickly that that teaching was about much more than covering the content, it was about building relationships. My students shared pieces of their lives with me, from parents going through divorce, to difficult living situations, to struggles with focus. When kids feel safe with you, they open up about what they’re really going through.

That experience made me realize I wanted to do more than teach multiplication and place value. I wanted to understand the root of why kids struggle and be part of the reason they could grow, both academically and personally. Over time, it became clear that the impact I could make inside the classroom was limited. What I really wanted was to help strengthen the entire family dynamic. I decided to go back to school for counseling psychology with the intent of making a greater impact on my community beyond the classroom.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a long journey developing Green Shore Counseling. I left the school district with the goal of starting a mental health practice that could provide resources to the community I love. Over the next two years, I gained valuable experience by learning, refining, and defining my own lane of therapy. I began working at a psychiatric hospital to gain experience with people suffering from mental health disorders. I then worked as a telehealth therapist seeing students in schools across Texas, while also working with All Us We Counseling, a local practice near where I grew up.

My original plan was to focus on working with kids, but while providing therapy in schools, I discovered a passion for supporting families. Watching a teenager break through to their parents or parents finally connect with their child, completely shifted my perspective. I realized that meaningful change often starts from the top down. I want to work with the parent, to better help the child .

Along the way, I was able to stay authentic in my approach and continue finding my own style of therapy. Through my experiences with different organizations, the vision for Green Shore Counseling came to life.

We’ve been impressed with Green Shore Counseling, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Green Shore Counseling is a community-based mental health practice that offers in-person and virtual therapy for adolescents and adults. I am experienced in working with families, couples, and adolescents, and I specialize in supporting young adults ages 18–25. This is the age group that will have the most impact over the next 50 years. They are beginning careers, building families, and stepping into leadership roles. All this, while discovering how childhood trauma may be shaping their current interactions. When this group is able to heal and grow, future generations benefit from their ability to cope and respond positively to life’s challenges.

What sets Green Shore Counseling apart from others is my personal passion for camping and outdoors. I have been camping since I was a kid, and it has always been a place of peace for me. Inspired by this, Green Shore Counseling offers what I like to call “We Outside Therapy.” This approach includes walk-and-talk therapy along local nature trails and group or individual sessions around a campfire. It’s a unique experience that can be more beneficial than many expect.

I am most proud that Green Shore Counseling is a relatable, nonjudgmental, and welcoming place where people can begin their healing journey.

We provide individual, family, and couples counseling to ensure that you have the tools needed to thrive. We also provide groups for both adults and teens, creating space for connection and support among like-minded individuals.

What does success mean to you?
I may not get to see it, because my success will take a generation to show major results. My goal is to change the mindset of an entire family. I want to help the grandparent, parent, and child develop skills that strengthen mental well-being. I call this building mental wealth.
