Hi Melissa, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
For me, the answer will always be integrity. Intelligence and energy are powerful, but without integrity they can be misused or lose their impact. As the CEO of Bella Vita Lashes, my reputation and the trust of my clients mean everything. When someone walks through our doors, they’re trusting us with their beauty, their confidence, and in many cases, their self-esteem. That’s a responsibility I take seriously.
Integrity guides every decision I make, from the products we use, to how we train our team, to the way we treat every single Bella who sits in our chair. It’s about doing the right thing even when no one is watching. It’s about creating a business that my clients, my team, and my community can count on. At the end of the day, lashes are our art, but integrity is our foundation.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Melissa, CEO of Bella Vita Lashes, and honestly, this brand started with one simple obsession, lashes that make you feel like that girl. What began as me hustling with a lash tray has grown into a Spa where Bellas in Laredo come for confidence, not just beauty.
At Bella Vita, we do more than lashes. We map, sculpt, and perfect every detail like it’s art. But what really sets us apart is the vibe. We hype you up, we make you laugh, and we send you out the door looking like the most polished version of yourself.
Lashes might be our thing, but confidence is the real service we provide.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
The people who have taught me the most about work are my Bellas — the women who sit in our chairs every day. They’ve shown me that this job isn’t just about lashes or facials. It’s about trust. It’s about confidence. It’s about giving someone that spark when they look in the mirror and finally see the version of themselves they always wanted.
When I started Bella Vita, I thought work meant long hours, hustle, and sacrifice. And yes, there’s plenty of that. But my clients taught me that real work is about showing up with integrity, keeping your word, and creating an experience that makes people feel valued.
That lesson shaped Bella Vita from day one. We don’t rush through services, we don’t cut corners, and we don’t treat beauty like a transaction. Every Bella who walks in is family — and that culture of care is the reason we’ve grown into a brand women can count on.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell my younger self, “Mija, stop doubting yourself. The things that make you different are the things that will build your future.” I spent a lot of time worrying if I was enough — smart enough, strong enough, business-savvy enough. Now I know that heart, integrity, and the ability to connect with people are what really matter.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
In beauty, there’s always a new trend flying across TikTok or Instagram. The way I tell the difference is simple: a fad looks good for a minute, but a foundational shift improves a woman’s life long term.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m surrounded by my people. My family and my closest friends. It’s those moments when we’re sitting around the table, catching up, telling stories, and laughing so hard someone says, “ya me duele la panza.” It doesn’t matter if it’s a Sunday dinner, a random weekday, or just a quick coffee run. That’s when I feel grounded. No pressure, no roles, just love and connection. That’s the peace that refuels me and reminds me what really matters.
