Check Out Anum Malik’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anum Malik.

Hi Anum, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well first and foremost, I would like to extend my gratitude for this feature, thank you for having me!

What began as a creative outlet during lockdown has blossomed into a thriving business. Before becoming a makeup artist, I built my career in corporate marketing, later pursuing an MBA while also planning my wedding. By 2020, my life took another beautiful turn with the birth of my daughter, an experience that reshaped my path entirely.

While sharing makeup looks online as a hobby, I received an unexpected request, a client wanted to book me. That moment marked the beginning of something extraordinary. Within six months, I was not only working with event clients but also booking bridal makeup, transforming a passion into a profession.

Today I look back with immense gratitude. What started with a single post has grown into a business rooted in creativity, community, and connection. All thanks to the people who believed in me from the very beginning.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, even though I have truly been blessed with incredible clients since day one. The real challenge came with balance; managing toddlers at home, taking care of clients, staying on top of emails, and keeping up with content creation all at once. There were times I felt completely overwhelmed. But those struggles taught me to pause, reassess, and find smarter ways to manage my business. Bringing an admin on board was a turning point as it allowed me to breathe, focus on my artistry and serve my clients with even more intention.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Although I do makeup for various different events, I specialize in South Asian bridal looks. With that, one of the things I value most is creating makeup that feels completely customized to each bride; something that reflects her personality, style, and vision for her big day. It’s so special when someone books me for their engagement, then their wedding, and later their baby shower. Being a part of those milestone moments feels like a full-circle blessing and it brings me so much joy.

What I’m most proud of, though, goes far beyond makeup itself. Over the years I have built incredible relationships with my clients, many of whom have become dear friends.

What sets me apart is the experience I create. My glam sessions aren’t just about makeup; they’re about connection. We chat, laugh, and have fun throughout the process, which helps my brides feel relaxed and stress-free on one of the biggest days of their lives. I think that mix of artistry and authentic connection is what I’m most known for, and it’s what makes this work so meaningful to me.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
continued blending of creativity and technology, with trends constantly shifting and new opportunities emerging for artists to experiment.

Personally, I would also love to explore film and editorial makeup, working with celebrities and high-profile projects. The the idea of pushing my artistry in new directions, creating looks that tell a story on screen or in magazines, is incredibly inspiring to me. For now, I’m focused on growing, learning and embracing whatever exciting opportunities come my way.
