Meet Li Luo of Katy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Li Luo.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When my son, Brendan Nie, was six years old, I enrolled him in piano lessons. We were fortunate to find an inspiring teacher who ignited his passion for music. I still remember Brendan saying he wanted to be a piano teacher, and that I could help him manage his music school.

Fast forward to 2018, when Brendan was a freshman at Seven Lakes High School in Katy. He became more serious about his music career, discovering his instrument of choice — the upright bass — and joining the Jazz band at Seven Lakes. That same year, I began building our music school, Wisely Music Learning.

This year marks our seventh year in business. Brendan is currently in his second year of Master’s study at the Eastman School of Music in upstate New York, having graduated from the University of North Texas, one of the top jazz colleges.

Brendan will be completing his graduate studies in May 2026, and I believe he will be an excellent new manager for Wisely. This transition will allow me to focus on PEISON INC, the logistics business I started in 2022, also located in Houston.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The challenges posed by COVID-19, particularly the initial hesitation from many parents about in-person lessons at our studio. This period significantly impacted our instructors’ income.

Thanks to the crucial support from the SBA and Fort Bend County, we were able to pay our instructors 100% of the sales from lessons between May and August 2020. This assistance was vital in allowing us to retain our excellent music teachers and ensure their continued presence at the school as business operations resumed.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
All our instructors have a music degree, either in instrument performance or music education.

Some of them have years of experience working with studuents on the spectrum

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
we believe that several key elements are crucial for a successful and enriching learning experience. These include building trust with parents, ensuring we have qualified teaching professionals, and fostering strong chemistry and bonding between our instructors and students in the classroom.
