Today we’d like to introduce you to Trang Nguyen.
Hi Trang, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Ten years ago, I arrived in the U.S. with nothing but a dream and determination. My English was limited, I didn’t understand the culture, and everything felt unfamiliar. From those early days, I faced countless challenges adjusting to a new way of life. Yet, it was through those struggles that I grew and found my path forward.
Eventually, I founded my own marketing agency during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, drawing from my background in media, marketing, and event management. With our determination, the agency grew rapidly to a team of 35 talented individuals, and I’m incredibly proud of them. They work with heart, always putting the needs of our clients first, which has been a cornerstone of our success.
After a few years of building the marketing company, I started to feel a longing for my original passion: events. Before moving to the U.S., I had achieved great success in Vietnam, serving as a director and producer for major productions like The Voice Vietnam, Dancing with the Stars Vietnam, Elle Show, and the MTV Awards. Back then, many people advised me against leaving everything behind to start fresh in the U.S., but I followed my heart, knowing it was a risk worth taking.
My passion for events reignited when I planned my own dream wedding. Being a perfectionist, I dove deep into every detail – researching, conceptualizing, and ensuring everything was flawless. That process was like a spark that reminded me of my love for creating meaningful moments.
I decided to pursue the event industry again, this time in the U.S. I dedicated myself to learning the latest wedding and event technologies, updating my knowledge, and sharing those insights with my team. After completing several courses, The Story Wedding & Event was born.
Our mission is to be storytellers through our decor. We aim to create breathtaking moments for our clients, helping them celebrate their unique stories. When we accept any booking, we pour our hearts into every detail. We steer away from mass-produced or generic designs, focusing instead on personalized and one-of-a-kind experiences. Our goal is for each client to feel like the star of their own journey, and we ensure that every aspect reflects their individuality. These are the reasons why booking The Story is not easy, we are known for choosing quality over quantity.
Today, we’re blessed to have the trust and support of so many clients. They share their stories with us, and from those narratives, we create concepts that retell their journey to their guests in a way that is meaningful and unforgettable.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
During the early stages of building The Story, I had to invest in learning, searching for the most talented artisans to handcraft our decorations, assembling a team of skilled 3D designers, and collaborating with the most knowledgeable florists in the industry. It was a time of immense effort and dedication, but amidst all of this, an incredible gift came into my life – expecting a baby boy after a long wait.
As women, balancing motherhood with pursuing our dreams is often a tough challenge. At that time, I was already running a company, starting up The Story, and beginning my journey as a mother. It’s important to understand that both being a business owner and a mother are full-time jobs. When you’re a mom, your children need your constant attention because they’re still so young and depend on your guidance to grow.
But I was fortunate to have unwavering support from my husband, my team, and even my mother. My team stood by me wholeheartedly, treating The Story as their own “child”. I remember days when I was physically exhausted, but their dedication and passion shone through – they took full responsibility for their roles and never let the work falter. Their belief in our vision fueled my determination to see The Story thrive.
Thankfully, my son was very cooperative with me during that time. I remember being over eight months pregnant and still decorating for events. Each time, I would talk to him, saying, “Please understand for mami. Let me create something beautiful for our awesome clients !” And every single time, he was calm and didn’t cause me any discomfort.
Moreover, I’ve always seen having a child at that moment as a blessing. I’ve always wanted to give my all and live a life full of ups and downs, not one that feels empty or dull. I want to have stories to tell him about my journey of growth and perseverance. After all, every challenge comes with valuable lessons which not everyone gets the chance to experience.
Some people think having a newborn while starting a business is an obstacle, but I see it as a blessing. Becoming a mother gave me a deeper understanding of our clients, moms-to-be, brides, and first-time mothers. We share the same desire to create the best for our babies and our families. This empathy drives me to pour my heart into every design.
Whether it’s a baby shower, first birthday, community festival, or wedding, I imagine each event as if it were for my own child. I meticulously craft every detail, striving for the utmost perfection because I know how much these moments mean to our clients.
Motherhood didn’t hold me back – it made me more determined, empathetic, and creative. It’s this balance of love and ambition that shapes The Story into what it is today.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The Story is a professional balloon and event decoration vendor, specializing in baby showers, first birthdays, and other milestone celebrations.
We believe an event should be more than just decoration, it should be a true “quiet luxury” experience. We don’t work from templates. Instead, we listen deeply to your story and transform it into a design that is personal, meaningful, and unforgettable.
Behind every event is a team of 3D designers and highly skilled artisans, crafting each detail by hand with high-quality materials and meticulous care.
Because more than anything, we believe that every story deserves to be told, and the world deserves to hear yours.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
At The Story, we specialize in event decoration services—from baby showers to birthdays, bridal events, and more. We offer everything from backdrops and welcome stations to photo booths and centerpieces. But what truly sets us apart is that we don’t offer a standard menu of pre-designed options. We don’t ask our clients to pick from a list—we ask them to tell us their story.
Every event we create starts with a conversation. We sit down, listen closely, and design something that reflects the heart of their journey. It’s not just about decorations—it’s about capturing a feeling, a memory, a milestone. That’s why no two events are ever the same.
That also means every week, we’re working on new ideas. We’re constantly brainstorming, adapting, and experimenting—because each client brings something different to the table. And what’s truly exciting is seeing how the same decorative elements can come to life in entirely different ways, depending on the story behind them.
So when people ask, “Anything new coming up at The Story?”—the truth is, everything is new. Every single time. If you take a look at our social media, you’ll see that no two events look the same. That’s because no two clients are the same. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.
3/ Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been adaptability, a hunger to learn, and sharp decision-making.
First, adaptability. When you run a business—especially in events—nothing ever goes exactly as planned. There were moments when I had to change entire concepts just days before a wedding, or adjust timelines with a baby in my arms. Being able to shift gears without losing focus has been a survival skill.
Second, being willing to learn everything. In this line of work, you’re not just the creative lead—you’re also the accountant, logistics coordinator, HR, customer service… You don’t get to say, “This isn’t my strength.” You make it your strength, or at least learn enough to make smart decisions. And in today’s economy, every detail matters. Every cost, every strategy, every client experience has to be considered carefully.
Third, calculated decision-making. In a world that changes so fast, speed is important—but clarity is more important. I’ve learned to pause just enough to weigh the options, but not so long that momentum is lost.
