Hidden Gems: Meet Lacy Price of Mahjaholic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacy Price.

Hi Lacy , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I learned to play mahjong a few years before COVID with a group of friends. We’d gather weekly, laugh, snack (drink), and slowly piece together the rhythm of the game. Then, during lockdown, we took it online. In the midst of all that uncertainty, Mahjong gave me a sense of control, making order out of chaos, quite literally. It became a lifeline: something beautiful, grounding, and shared. I’ve been hooked ever since.

As my daughters became more independent, I found myself searching for something fulfilling outside the home, something creative, social, and purpose-driven. I launched Mahjaholic as a way to turn my passion into something more structured and shareable. Around that same time, I partnered with The Mahjong Line as a brand ambassador, which allowed me to introduce even more people to this beautiful game and the gorgeous tiles that make it feel so special. Teaching Mahjong felt like the perfect blend of connection, strategy, and fun. It’s more than a game; it’s a way to bring people together.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I was fortunate to launch Mahjaholic in 2023, right as the mahjong craze was really taking off, so in many ways, the timing worked in my favor. Business has been strong from the beginning, and I was especially lucky to partner with The Mahjong Line, an all-female-owned tile company that has been leading the luxury tile market since 2020. Becoming one of their brand ambassadors gave me a platform and credibility early on, and I’m proud to align with women who are paving the way in this space.

In the beginning, I spent a lot of time traveling, visiting friends, and then teaching their friends, which opened so many unexpected doors both personally and professionally. It hasn’t all been perfectly smooth, of course. Like any new business, there’s a learning curve, balancing family life, travel, and the demands of growing something new. But overall, it has been a truly fun and rewarding chapter of my life, and I feel lucky that the timing and the community came together in such a special way.

As you know, we’re big fans of Mahjaholic. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I’m Lacy Price, founder of Mahjaholic, where I offer private mahjong lessons, curated events, and luxury game experiences in Houston and beyond. I specialize in teaching Mahjong by National Mahjong League (NMJL) rules in a way that’s approachable for beginners and still engaging for seasoned players.
What sets me apart is the blend of expert instruction and elevated hospitality. I don’t just teach a game, I create stylish, social experiences that bring people together around the table. From private club gatherings and resort pop-ups to corporate events and luxury retreats, Mahjaholic blends tradition with modern flair.

I’m most proud of the community I’ve built, where women and friends connect through play, strategy, and style. Brand-wise, Mahjaholic represents elegance, fun, and confidence, always grounded in the integrity of the game. Whether you’re booking a private lesson, planning a bespoke event, or joining one of my signature “Mahjcations,” I invite you to experience mahjong in a way that is both classic and unforgettable.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My best advice for anyone just starting is to be yourself and lean into what makes your teaching or playing style unique. There are so many people in the mahjong world, and everyone naturally develops their own rhythm and personality at the table. When I was starting out, I sometimes worried about doing everything “perfectly,” but I’ve come to realize that confidence comes from honoring both the traditions of the game and your own way of connecting with others.

I always encourage players and instructors to stay true to the rules and history of the game, it’s what gives mahjong its richness and depth, but to also make space for joy, laughter, and connection. Some of the best games aren’t just about the tiles you play, but about the conversations, the friendships, and the memories you make while playing. If you can hold on to that balance, respecting the integrity of mahjong while having fun along the way, you’ll never go wrong.
