Daily Inspiration: Meet Shonda Heuermann

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shonda Heuermann.

Hi Shonda, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello All, We would like to take a moment to introduce ourselves to everyone.

I am Ray Heuermann and my wife is Shonda Heuermann are the owners of A-1 Welding.

In 2013, we started our own business to help our community with all their welding and fabricating needs. We enjoy every moment of it.

In 2014, we decided to homeschool our two daughters. During our homeschool journey is when we found out there were no opportunities for our homeschoolers to learn about welding, so we started looking into how we could help our youth have more options to learn how to weld.

In 2018, we started Homeschool Welding Classes for homeschooled teens. Growing popular, our classes expanded to public teens who wanted to take our classes over school breaks. After seeing this growth, we decided to name our classes to A-1 Welding Classes.

Soon came the high demand of adults wishing to take our classes, so a couple months ago we had another expansion and now teach both teen and adult welding classes to everyone. It’s been an amazing journey and we are looking forward to what the future holds.

We are so thankful for all your wonderful support and helping our company grow.

We look forward to helping take care of all your Metal Repair Needs and Teaching our students to learn how to Weld for many more years to come.

We really appreciate you all very much!!
Thank you,
Ray & Shonda Heuermann

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We have had a lot of difficulties and struggles in our business but nothing we couldn’t overcome and love having the opportunity to help our community.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I started my welding career in 1991 after I completed a course in welding and a couple community classes. I then went on to have many welding jobs in my life, from starting out welding exhaust pipe for muffler shops (and various shops in-between), rigging out my truck, to working on navy ship parts. Throughout my journey I built up my certifications (which I acquired on jobs), I became certified to weld aluminum, stainless, read blueprints, and fabricate.

After long and hard work, In 2013 I decided I wanted to start my own business. My nephew wanted to learn to weld, so I hired him on and taught him hands on experience with welding. Later, my daughters started showing interest in welding so I taught them as well. That’s when I found my passion of wanting to teach others to weld. Having 34 years of experience in the welding/fabricating industry (7 years of teaching to my community), has shown me that most of your knowledge will grow when you take action.

What makes you happy?
Helping students improve and learn welding all while having fun.
