Hi Damita, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
La’Dough Sweets was created from my love of baking for family and friends. The name itself represents my three wonderful children.
The first three letters of the name La’Dough Sweets are the very initials for my children’s first names. The (L) represents my daughter Lea, the (A) represents my daughter Alexis, the (D) represents my son Denzel and the word Dough speaks for itself lol. I have an ample number of years of experience in baking and catering for many different organizations.
In 2019 I decided to step out on my faith and follow my dream of having my very own sweets bakery now known as La’Dough Sweets, where every cookie crumbles with love. I can say that I most proud of the fact that my bakery is 100% female owned, black owned, and family operated. It is such a great joy when you have the support of your family in all aspects of operating a business.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With years of experience in baking and catering, we’ve weathered many storms and overcome countless obstacles. I have faced many challenges but have been abundantly blessed to still maintain. I realized that when starting a new business, you quickly discover that You Don’t Know, What You Don’t Know. Everyday becomes a learning experience and a challenge all in one. Having to learn the ends and outs of owning and operating a business. became extremely overwhelming at times. Prior to our bakery being approved to open its door to the public we forced to quickly learn the proper procedures and protocols of our governing state in regard to obtaining valid licensing and permits to validate our business. All and all we nevertheless maintained and continued to pursue our destiny. We are beyond grateful that even through the ups and downs La’Dough Sweets has blossomed into a beautiful haven offering some of Houston’s most delicious cookies and sweets around.

As a 100% female-owned, black-owned, and family-operated bakery, we take immense pride in our roots and the unwavering support of our loved ones. Every day, we pour our hearts into crafting handcrafted cookies and treats that are not only delicious but also a testament to our commitment to excellence. In 2019 I took the biggest risk in my life. I walked away from the financial stability of Corporate America. I decided to step out on my faith and follow my dream of having my very own sweets bakery thanks to God is now known as La’Dough Sweets, where deliciously simple, handcrafted treats is our one and only SWEET spot.
