We’re looking forward to introducing you to Lauren Turney. Check out our conversation below.
Lauren, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
What brings me the most joy outside of work is spending quality time with my husband, whether it’s a slow weekend morning together or just catching up over dinner, those moments ground me and remind me what really matters. I’ve also been loving crocheting cozy fall and Christmas blankets; there’s something so peaceful and nostalgic about working with my hands, especially as the seasons start to change. It’s become a creative outlet that’s just for me, and it’s been such a comforting way to unwind and embrace the cozy vibes of the season.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Lauren Turney is a Houston-based photographer specializing in clean, bright, and true-to-color imagery that captures genuine emotion and connection. I offer a range of photography services, including weddings, micro-weddings, elopements, headshots, and portrait sessions, all delivered with a natural, airy style that my clients love. I got into photography through a deep appreciation for storytelling and a desire to preserve meaningful moments with authenticity and care. What sets me apart is not just my consistent, polished aesthetic but also the thoughtful, client-first experience I provide, from inquiry to final gallery. My work helps people feel comfortable in front of the camera while creating timeless images they’ll treasure forever. I’m most proud of the trust my clients place in me and the opportunity to document moments that truly matter. Above all, I want potential clients to know that I’m more than just a photographer, I’m a calm, creative presence who is fully invested in capturing their memories with heart and intention.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that really shaped how I see the world was the first time I photographed a wedding where things didn’t go exactly as planned, with weather, late starts, and stressed timelines. But, in the middle of all the chaos, the couple was completely present with each other. They laughed and cried together, and embraced the imperfections with so much love and joy. That day reminded me that life doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful. It shifted how I see not only photography, but everything. I started focusing more on capturing emotion over perfection, and embracing real moments in both my work and my own life. It taught me that what matters most isn’t how things look, but how they feel.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self, “You don’t have to have it all figured out to be on the right path. Just keep showing up, stay true to what lights you up, and trust that the small steps you’re taking are leading somewhere beautiful.”
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies the photography industry tells itself is that you have to constantly be busy, booked out, and hustling to be successful. There’s always this pressure to be shooting, posting, and growing your following, as if taking a rest, finding balance, or slowing down means you’re falling behind. But the truth is, creativity needs space to breathe, and success doesn’t always look like back-to-back bookings. Another lie is that your worth as a photographer is tied to how expensive your gear is or how “epic” your shoots are. In reality, some of the most meaningful, impactful work comes from simple, honest moments, captured with intention. Success in this industry should be measured by connection, fulfillment, and how well you’re serving your clients, not just by numbers or appearances.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace in those quiet, in-between moments, like early mornings when the house is still…a cup of coffee in hand, and soft light coming through the window. Or when I’m curled up on the couch crocheting a blanket with a cozy show playing in the background, completely present and unhurried. There’s also a special kind of peace that comes right after a shoot, when the sun has set, my memory cards are full, and I know I’ve captured something meaningful for someone. Those moments of stillness, purpose, and simple joy are when I feel most grounded.
