Today we’d like to introduce you to Evy Knight.
Hi Evy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started with a love of fashion and a thirst of creativity at an early age. In 1998, I created my very first line of customized pacifiers that I sold at popup events before breaking into high end boutiques in Houston area. It took me two years to save the money to open my own boutique in Old Town Springs where we thrived for two more years. After researching different markets in Dallas and Las Vegas, I branched out from my pacifiers to carry designer named baby and women clothing in our flagship store located in the Vintage in Spring Texas in 2002. I kept the business fresh with new ideas and projects. We hosted many fashion shows and created a modeling team in 2010 called LaVeVe Couture. The girls auditioned for places on the team and really promoted a body positive image. They were featured many times on the Deborah Dunkin show as well as walking the runway at fashion shows at the racetracks raising money for cancer awareness. In 2015, my husband had a heart attack requiring surgery and a long recovery forcing us to sell everything and take a step back for two years. In 2017, we found a great community here in Nederland, Texas that welcomed us with open arms as we reopened our boutique growing from a 500 square foot store to a 3500 square foot store in just 6 months still known today as Twisted Gypsy. We were were sought after to host a meet and greet with JoJo Disney from 90 days fiancé. We are still heavily involved in local charitable causes including our Fashion Fight and Find a Cure 501C where we are able to donate to local families involved in the cancer fight. We are absolutely blessed to be able to continually grow our business with the support of our fabulous and loyal customers.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
During our growth the road hasn’t always been smooth, we have struggled as every business does with economic ups and downs as well as some personal health issues but we are very thankful to have come out even stronger.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We bring a big city shopping experience to a small town. We cater to all ages, demographics, sizes and genders. We, also, try our best to stock our store in Texas designers and creators.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Networking is an absolute crucial part of a small business. When you work with area owners you can share ideas, experiences and be able to help your customers find everything they want.
