Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricardo Gattas-Moras.
Hi Ricardo, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a proud Hispanic business owner and a father, and those two parts of who I am drive everything I do. I started my career in the telecommunications industry, spending over 17 years in different roles from retail sales to marketing leadership. Along the way I learned how to lead people, manage multi-million dollar budgets, and build programs that connected employees and customers in meaningful ways.
After years of helping a massive organization, I realized I wanted to take those same skills and pour them into something of my own. I launched Poppy Marketing and Consulting because I believe small businesses deserve the same level of strategy, creativity, and execution that big companies pay huge teams to deliver. For me it was also about freedom, building a business that creates a legacy for my family while serving people in a more personal way.
Today I work with entrepreneurs and growing businesses to help them find their voice, sharpen their brand, and use technology to scale. It has been a journey of risk, learning, and constant evolution, but it has also been the most rewarding work I have ever done.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Leaving behind the security of a steady paycheck and a clear career path was tough, especially as a father with a family to think about. There were plenty of nights where I questioned if I was doing the right thing.
One of the biggest challenges has been learning to wear every hat in the business. In the corporate world you have teams for everything. Running your own company means you’re the team until you can build one. I’ve had to teach myself new skills, figure out systems, and push through moments of doubt while still showing up for my clients with confidence.
The other struggle has been trusting the process. Growth doesn’t happen overnight, and as someone who is used to moving fast, patience has been a real lesson. But every challenge has pushed me to get sharper, more resourceful, and more creative.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Poppy Marketing and Consulting?
Poppy Marketing and Consulting is all about helping small businesses look and operate like the big players without the massive overhead. We specialize in branding, websites, and marketing strategies that are simple, smart, and tailored to each client. At the core, I focus on giving entrepreneurs the tools and confidence to grow their business without feeling overwhelmed.
What sets us apart is the mix of corporate experience and personal connection. I spent years in the fast-paced world of telecommunications where everything was about scale, budgets, and performance. Now I bring that same level of strategy to local businesses but in a way that feels approachable and human. I’m bilingual too, so I love being able to help businesses reach both English and Spanish speaking communities.
Something I hear all the time from small business owners is how confusing and frustrating agency pricing can be. That’s why I’ve made transparency a non-negotiable part of my brand. Every service is clearly laid out with pricing that people can actually understand, no hidden fees or surprise invoices. It builds trust, and it lets clients feel like they’re making real choices for their business instead of guessing what things will cost.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of how personal Poppy feels. The name itself comes from wanting something warm, bright, and approachable. It reflects the way we work: clear, creative, and people-first.
I want readers to know that our services aren’t one-size-fits-all. Whether someone needs a logo, a full website, or a long-term growth plan, we build solutions that actually match where their business is today and where they want it to go. At the end of the day, my goal is to take the stress off their shoulders so they can focus on what they do best while knowing their brand is in good hands.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that you can’t let fear of failure hold you back. Starting a business is messy, unpredictable, and full of moments where you wonder if you made the right choice. I had to learn that mistakes are part of the process and that growth comes from pushing through the uncomfortable parts, not avoiding them.
I’ve also learned the value of being clear and honest in everything, from how I talk to clients to how I set up my pricing. People respect transparency, and it builds trust faster than any marketing campaign ever could. At the end of the day, business is about people, and the relationships you build matter more than anything else.
