Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Davis.
Hi Mark, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a native of Dallas, Texas, I graduated from South Oak Cliff High School. I started preaching at the age of 10 years old. I have been preaching for over 49 years and I have been pastoring for over 35 years. I pastored the First Missionary Baptist Church of West Columbia Texas almost 13 years. I currently pastor two churches, Pastor of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Houston for over 22 years and Pastor of New Hope Bible Church in Lamarque Texas for over 1 year.
I came to the University of Houston on a football scholarship in 1983. In 1984 we were the Southwest Conference Champion.
In 1989 I graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Studies and Business Administration.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Whenever you are a leader of people who will always have some bumpy roads. But I keep my focus, knowing that God did not promise smooth sailings, but He guarantees safe landing.
I trust my FAITH over my FEARS, knowing that God has ordered, ordained, appointed me with my assignment. And my God will NEVER put more on me that I can bear.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a faithful Pastor/Teacher who loves where God has placed me and loves the people I pastor. I have a weekly global radio ministry where I am heard in over 40 countries. I love teaching and preaching. I have preached from coast to coast in the United States.
Recently I had the opportunity to preach on the Carnival Breeze cruise ship. I am also the Vice Moderator for Independent Missionary Baptist General Association of Texas.
In 2011, I was inducted into the Blair/Beckworth Hall of Fame (Religious).
I have been married for 33 years to my college sweetheart and we have two sons who are teachers and coaches.
My relaxation is cruising, playing dominoes, and grilling.
I am a former instructor of Parenting, Domestic Violence, Anger Management.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Two things:
1. Matthew 6:33 – Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
2. Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all they ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
