Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Mower.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My path to private practice wasn’t a straight line. I stayed home for 14 years raising my five kids before returning to school and building a career that felt deeply meaningful to me. Along the way, I discovered a passion for helping people create healthy, connected relationships and embrace their sexual wellness without shame. Opening Expanse Counseling has been such a rewarding chapter, I get to combine my love of relationship work and sex therapy to help individuals and couples and individuals feel more confident, authentic, and fulfilled.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a straight or easy road, but every challenge has shaped me into a more grounded and compassionate therapist. Going back to school after years at home raising my kids was intimidating, and building a business from the ground up has had its fair share of growing pains. Balancing entrepreneurship, clinical work, and family life can be overwhelming at times, and being a therapist while also a human, navigating my own emotions and life obstacles, has taught me a lot about grace, boundaries, and self-compassion. I think that’s what helps me connect so deeply with my clients. We’re all figuring it out as we go, and that shared humanity is what makes this work so meaningful.
As you know, we’re big fans of Expanse Counseling. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Expanse Counseling was created around a simple belief: growth happens when we expand our awareness and take ownership of our story. I work with individuals and couples who want to feel more connected to themselves, their partners, and their lives. As a Certified Sex Therapist, I help clients explore intimacy, desire, and the erotic mind in a space that feels safe and free of shame. I look at how curiosity, imagination, and emotional connection can open the door to a more authentic and fulfilling sex life.
In my work with relationships, I focus on helping people understand what is theirs to hold and what is not. Learning that difference often changes everything, it creates space for healthier boundaries, clearer communication, and more genuine connection.
What makes Expanse Counseling different is the emphasis on depth, honesty, and real-world growth. There is no formula here. Every client and relationship is unique, and the work is collaborative. My goal is to help people move from feeling stuck to feeling more confident, grounded, and connected in their lives and relationships.
What are your plans for the future?
Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue expanding Expanse Counseling and the ways I support clients. I’m developing new offerings around sexual wellness and relationship enrichment, with a focus on helping people connect more deeply with themselves and each other. I’m also continuing my doctoral studies in Counselor Education and Supervision, which will open doors for teaching, training, and mentoring the next generation of therapists. My goal is to keep growing a practice that’s known for authenticity, depth, and innovation in the field of relationships and sex therapy.
