Today we’d like to introduce you to Davie Orta.
Hi Davie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
One summer, my brother and I — two Texas kids with big dreams — packed our backpacks and set off across Europe. We didn’t have much more than a rough idea and the open road in front of us. Over the course of the trip, we ended up wandering through 11 countries, crashing in hostels, hitchhiking, taking random trains — just chasing the unknown.
Along the way, something started to take shape. Our last name is Orta, which in Portuguese means “orchard.” But while we were in Germany, Turkish travelers kept asking us if we were Turkish. Turns out “Orta” in Turkish means “middle.” That stuck with us.
It got us thinking — what if there was a space that lived in the middle? Between work and home. Between the grind and the recharge. A place that felt grounded, welcoming, creative — like a second home, but with purpose.
That question became the seed for what eventually turned into Ortahaus — not just a barbershop, but a space for connection, for comfort, and for people to just be. A kind of “middle-home.”
So yeah — welcome to the middle
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all. We opened our doors in July 2020 when the pandemic was just gaining strength. We stuck through and eventually were able to see the other side. Much anxiety and days we wanted to quit but something kept telling us to push through. And we have been rewarded for that persistence
As you know, we’re big fans of ORTAHAUS Barber Co.. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Ortahaus is unique because it’s more than just a barbershop — it’s a space intentionally designed to exist in the middle, between home and work, hustle and rest. It blends craftsmanship with community, offering high-quality, intentional service in an environment that feels creative, grounded, and welcoming. Every detail — from the atmosphere to the conversation — is curated to make people feel seen, not just served. It’s not about trends or speed, but about presence, connection, and care. Ortahaus reimagines what a barbershop can be: a place where culture lives, ideas are shared, and people feel genuinely at home. We specialize in all short and medium length haircuts and styles. We are masters at our craft and take pride in it. Our brand has been recognized by big names in sports, fashion and entertainment.
Ortahaus is where craft meets culture — a space defined by precision, presence, and purpose. We’re here to raise the standard and lead the future of barbering.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Hard work pays off when you stay committed to your craft — sharpening it with consistency, patience, and purpose. Growth comes not from shortcuts, but from showing up, refining your skills, and refusing to quit.
