Story & Lesson Highlights with Sierra Branigan of Spring

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sierra Branigan. Check out our conversation below.

Sierra, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I’d say I’m walking a path. I’ve spent time exploring and learning, which helped me find my direction, but now I’m intentional about my goals and the steps I’m taking to achieve them.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Sierra Branigan, founder of The Mays Phlebotomy Institute and Black Roses Hair Weaving Studio. I’ve spent over two decades in the beauty industry, creating a private salon experience that focuses on care and confidence. Over time, I expanded into healthcare education and built The Mays Phlebotomy Institute to make phlebotomy and other medical training affordable, practical, and accessible. What makes my journey unique is how I’ve combined two very different fields; beauty and healthcare, under one mission: empowering people with skills, opportunities, and spaces where they feel seen and valued.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that has served its purpose and must be released is the people-pleaser in me. For a long time, I felt I had to say yes to everything and everyone, but now I understand the power of boundaries. Releasing that part of myself allows me to focus on what truly aligns with my purpose.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Through suffering, I learned compassion. Success never required me to slow down and really see people the way pain does. Hard times taught me to meet others with understanding, because I know what it feels like to fight battles no one else sees.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I protect is empowerment through education. I believe knowledge is a tool no one can take away from you, so whether I’m teaching phlebotomy or uplifting a client in my salon chair, I’m committed to giving people skills and confidence they can carry for life.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace in quiet moments, when I can sit still, reflect, and give thanks. That stillness reminds me I don’t always have to hustle to be worthy.
