Meet Jenna Boehm of Jenna Linn Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Boehm.

Hi Jenna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up showing animals and competing in pageants, so I grew up around cameras every day. I was fascinated by how amazing it was to capture a memory forever—looking back at old photos of my parents, grandparents, etc. I just loved the idea of capturing a story. Back then, I was extremely obsessed with Polaroids, and it is so amusing to me that they’re gaining popularity again!

In college, I purchased my first DSLR camera, and it allowed me to gain experience and some extra spending money on the side. Everything clicked after that. I realized this was something I am actually good at. I love freeze-framing those cherished moments, building relationships with clients, traveling to new places… it just made sense for me to do this.

As I gained more experience, I had the opportunity to capture weddings, and that was it! I was sold, I loved every second of it. I love weddings; even from a young age, I have always enjoyed them. Now, getting to capture someone’s special day surrounded by their loved ones, showcasing all those little special details… it is truly amazing.

In the last few years, I was blessed to get to travel more. I was in Italy a few years ago, and this year I have marked off a couple of states, and each travel date enlists a happy client! I think when we are younger, we get asked a lot where we see our future, and for me, this is it. I truly feel I know where I belong, behind the camera, making people happy!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think that everyone has their own struggles when building their own business. I think for me was honestly finding a work/life balance. I spent a lot of late nights and long days, and just ended up burned out. No matter how hard you push, if you’re not 100% at the end of the day, that is not good for anyone.

Setting boundaries and knowing how many bookings you can handle are key elements to having a successful photography business. Talk to people, too; it is so important to make friends with other photographers and vendors. Find your people!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Jenna Linn Photography?
Often, when asked what I enjoy the most, I provide three top choices: photographing weddings, boudoir, and graduation.

Weddings are my specialty and allow me the most time to work with my clients and build that solid relationship. I truly enjoy destination weddings, too. Getting to explore new cities and see new views gives people something different every single time. I love learning the stories behind why the venue or country was picked.

Boudior is truly an art. Helping women see themselves in a beautiful way is just so special. Often, the ladies who book these sessions have never done one before and are nervous. My job is to make it fun, walk them through each pose, hype them up, and show them how amazing they look. Days I have boudior on the schedule just get me pumped!

My graduates are my heart! It is the first big milestone, life is changing, and all the opportunities are out in front. In these sessions, I like to learn about their dreams, plans, hobbies, etc. I never want a client to feel stressed, so that is why having those conversations and talking about life makes it a bit easier. We discuss ideas for photos, what look they are going for what props they want to include to make the session all about them.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I believe that if you work in this industry, you have to be a people person with a big heart. Serving people through photography is so important. We are not just capturing party photos; we are capturing grandma watching her youngest grandchild have her first dance. The tears, the emotion. Capturing the emotion of parents who struggled with infertility, got their rainbow baby, and found out the gender.

I get to be the secret keeper, the tissue holder, and dress fluffer through every season of life.
