Today we’d like to introduce you to Janet Evans.
Hi Janet, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always been interested in bookkeeping starting in high school. I took accounting courses in college and began working in the accounting field as a bookkeeper right out of college. I worked for several small companies in the Houston area and learned alot from those experiencesl My sister suggested I start my own bookkeeping business and after some consideration, I decided to try it. I was fortunate to get two big clients right away and that was the beginning of my career as an accounting services professional. I have been lucky to have great clients and many of them have become friends along the way. I have been helping small to medium size business owners for over 20 years and truly love my work. I am blessed to have great clients and want to continue in this field for many years to come. I am entertaining the idea of hiring an assistant in order to grow my business, but I still want to remain fairly small. That will be the next venture in my accounting career.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The only challenges I have are trying to provide the best services possible for my clients. To do this, I listen to many webinars and learn as much as I can about new software and ideas that can benefit the companies I provide services for. I do have to weed through many emails of people wanting to provide services for me. I am usually not interested in what they are offering, as I prefer to work with people that I know. I am not interested in marketing and if I decide to grow further, I will have to work with someone that offers these services.
