Today we’d like to introduce you to Chucci White.
Hi Chucci, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hi, I’m Chucci, a content creator, dancer, and cosplayer originally from Beaumont, Texas. I’ve been dancing since the age of seven, but I truly believe I was born to dance. A fun fact that always surprises people is that my birthday falls on International Dance Day. Something that feels like more than just a coincidence.
Although I’ve had formal experiences through school and community teams, I consider myself a self-taught dancer. Much of what I learned came from YouTube, television, and observation. I joined various dance teams throughout my youth, which helped shape and refine my skills. As a shy and quiet child, dance was my safe space. My form of expression and escape. I was often asked, “How can you be so quiet, yet dance ?” That question used to confuse me, but it eventually became a source of motivation. I always felt underestimated because of my quiet nature, and dance gave me the voice I didn’t yet have.
During my childhood, I danced at church and participated in school dance teams. In high school, I served as a dance officer (co-captain) for two years. My passion continued into college, where I joined several campus teams including TSU Dance Company, RAAW Dance Crew, Black Excellence Dance Crew, and the ASA Dance Team. In my senior year, I also served as Co-Dance Director for ASA. One of my proudest accomplishments was earning a spot on the TSU Tiger Sensations dance team, a goal I had held for a long time. Thanks to these experiences and my active presence in the campus dance community, I was frequently invited to perform at events.
Today, I continue to take dance classes and perform at events around the Houston area. Dance remains a constant in my life and continues to open new doors creatively and professionally.
In addition to dance, I’m also a cosplayer. I began cosplaying in 2022, after discovering the community in 2021 through online creators who inspired me. I’ve always loved Halloween as a kid. From the creativity, to the costumes and to the transformation. Cosplay felt like a natural extension of that passion. It allows me to bring some of my favorite characters to life and express another side of my creativity.
I started creating content in 2020, simply because I loved dancing and making fun videos. In 2022, I had my first viral moment, and everything changed overnight. It was fast, exciting, and a little overwhelming, but it’s been an amazing journey so far.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a dancer, rejection is inevitable, so it certainly hasn’t been a smooth road. I consider self-taught dancer, and while that journey gave me a unique style and perspective, it also meant I lacked formal technique, especially in the early stages of my journey. I remember constantly begging my mother to enroll me in dance classes as a child, but financially, it just wasn’t possible. My mother was very committed to treating all of her children equally. She used to say, ‘If I can’t do it for all of you, then I can’t do it at all.’ I truly respect and understand her reasoning, but it was a setback for me when it came to auditions and competitive training.
Technical skills were always the biggest challenge for me. I would carefully read the feedback I received after auditions, and time and again, the notes pointed to my lack of technique. On top of that, I was a very shy child. I didn’t even realize I had a habit of looking down while dancing until much later. At the time, coaches would quietly place me in the back during performances, but no one ever explained why. It wasn’t until years later that I understood it was because of my lack of eye contact and facial expressions on stage. I wish someone had pointed it out to me sooner, because I would’ve worked tirelessly to correct it.
Still, all of those obstacles pushed me to grow. They made me more self-aware, more determined, and more committed to continuous improvement. Every rejection helped shape me into the artist I am today.
Another significant challenge I faced was the feeling of not fitting in with the other girls on the teams. I’ve always been naturally shy and more introverted, and at the time, I was solely focused on dancing. Making friends wasn’t a priority for me. I just wanted to show up, rehearse, and grow as a dancer. Because of that, I often kept to myself during practices, which led to some of the other girls labeling me as “anti-social”, a “nerd”, or even “weird”.
There were moments where I was made fun of—whether it was for how I looked or simply how I carried myself. It was deeply hurtful and isolating. Even when I held a leadership position as a dance officer, I often felt that I wasn’t given the same level of respect as others in similar roles. That lack of support made things even more difficult.
Despite all of that, my love for dance never wavered. It became the reason I continued to show up. Dance gave me purpose, confidence, and the strength to keep pushing forward—even when I felt like I didn’t belong. In many ways, it saved me.
As a content creator, I had to battle imposter syndrome hard. I have battle with this as dancer as well. It’s tough to put yourself out there and feel like you’re enough, especially when you’re comparing yourself to creators with huge followings or creator with similar content. There were moments I wanted to quit due to trolls within in the comments and posts that I put my heart and sweats into flopping. Every twist and turn has shaped who I am as a creator.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have the privilege of working with children, and one of the most rewarding aspects of my role is witnessing their growth and development each day. I’m often recognized as the teacher with blue hair who has a deep passion for Pokémon, and I embrace these unique qualities as part of what helps me connect with my students.
Being named Employee of the Month is an honor I truly cherish. I wasn’t even aware that such an accolade existed, so receiving it was a wonderful surprise. My work doesn’t feel like work because I genuinely love engaging with the children and making learning an enjoyable experience.
I believe in building strong, trusting relationships with each child, taking the time to understand their individual personalities so I can connect with them on a deeper level. By doing so, I aim to create an environment where they feel seen, heard, and supported.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Personally, I’ve always sought out inspiration from individuals who resonate with my passions and values. I make it a point to attend events that align with my interests and hobbies, as they offer invaluable opportunities for growth and connection. My advice would be to take chances and step outside your comfort zone because you never know where those moments of vulnerability can lead.
