Life & Work with Derriel Alexander of Spring

Today we’d like to introduce you to Derriel Alexander.

Derriel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always had a heart for people and a love for creating moments that bring them together. Growing up, my family was big on get-togethers. For us laughter, music, food, and connection were always at the center of it all. That joy of seeing people celebrate and feel seen is something I carried with me into adulthood.
That same passion led me to start my event space, where I could help others create beautiful memories of their own. I wanted to build a place where people could come together, celebrate life, and feel a sense of community.
At the same time, my love for dance has always been a big part of who I am. Dancing has been my creative outlet, my confidence builder, and my way of inspiring others to express themselves freely. Over time, I realized both my businesses, the event space and dance connect through one purpose: bringing people joy and helping them feel empowered and celebrated.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. However, every challenge has shaped me into who I am today. When I first started, one of the biggest hurdles was not being from here. I didn’t have a built-in network or connections to lean on, so everything I’ve built came from starting at zero learning, observing, and slowly finding my people along the way.
On top of that, I’ve always been more of an introvert, so putting myself out there, networking, and promoting my business didn’t come naturally. Fear definitely tried to hold me back a few times. Fear of failure, fear of not being enough, and fear of stepping into spaces where I didn’t yet feel known.
But with every uncomfortable step, I grew. I learned that you don’t have to have it all figured out or know everyone to make something meaningful happen. You just have to start, keep showing up, and trust that what’s meant for you will recognize your effort. Trusting God has kept me, I can definitely say that.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I wear many hats, but they all connect through one purpose which is helping people feel cared for, celebrated, and inspired. I’m a registered nurse, the owner of DeExclusive Events in Spring Texas, and a professional dancer and mentor.
Nursing has taught me compassion, patience, and the importance of connection. These are just a few qualities I carry into everything I do. Through my event space, I get to create beautiful experiences for others, whether it’s a wedding, birthday celebration, or community event. My goal is always to make each client feel valued and to turn their vision into something unforgettable.
On the creative side, dance has always been my passion. It’s not just about movement for me, it’s about confidence, expression, and joy. I use dance to inspire others, especially young people, to step into their power and believe in themselves.
What I’m most proud of is being able to merge all these sides of myself ; the caregiver, the creator, and the entrepreneur. What sets me apart is the heart I put into everything. No matter what I’m doing, I lead with intention, authenticity, and a genuine love for people.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Becoming a business owner was one of the biggest risks I’ve ever taken. I started with nothing but a dream, a vision, and faith in God. There was no blueprint, no guaranteed success, just a deep belief that what I was building had purpose. It was scary stepping out on faith, especially without connections or certainty, but that leap taught me that growth and comfort can’t exist in the same place. Every risk I’ve taken has brought me closer to the person I was meant to become.
