Today we’d like to introduce you to Guero G The Artist.
Guero , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey really started after I got out of TDC and finally got my hands on a computer. I didn’t have formal training — just a vision, a lot of trial and error, and the kind of determination that doesn’t come from comfort. I started teaching myself graphic design and built everything from scratch. Over time, I went from designing small local projects to working with major names like Sten Joddi, the Native rapper and actor from Reservation Dogs.
I also became the designer behind Slo Moe Sodas, helping build the brand’s identity from the ground up — from the labels to the visual direction you see on shelves today. I’m also a wholesale sales rep for the company. What kept me going wasn’t just art; it was proving that creativity could flip a struggle into success. Today, I go by Guero G the Artist, and my mission is to show that no matter where you come from, you can create your own lane and turn your story into success.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not even close to smooth. The road had more cracks than concrete. I came from a place where survival came before opportunity, so chasing a creative dream wasn’t exactly encouraged. I didn’t have guidance, equipment, or a safety net — just hunger and belief.
There were years when I questioned if it was even worth it. I’d get told to ‘get a real job’ while I was staying up all night learning design programs on a computer that barely ran. But every setback taught me something — how to adapt, how to stay consistent, how to turn rejection into fuel. Those struggles are what shaped my work ethic and my perspective. Without them, I wouldn’t have the same drive or vision I do now.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a self-taught graphic artist and brand developer. My work lives at the intersection of culture, street influence, and storytelling. I specialize in bringing identity to life — whether that’s through logos, apparel design, or full brand visuals. I’ve had the chance to work with Native rapper and actor Sten Joddi from Reservation Dogs and help build Slo Moe Sodas into a nationally recognized brand, from the first sketch to the bottles you see in stores today.
What I’m most proud of isn’t a single project — it’s the fact that I turned my passion into a career when everyone said it couldn’t be done. My style carries my roots; it’s raw, bold, and authentic. I don’t just design — I translate real stories, real energy, and real struggle into visual art. What sets me apart is that I never separate art from life. My work has a pulse because it comes from lived experience.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck? I’ve had both, but neither one runs my life. The bad luck gave me character, the good luck showed up after I refused to quit. I’ve had moments where everything fell apart — lost clients, broken equipment, empty accounts — but each time, something bigger came from it.
People like to call it luck when doors finally open, but what they don’t see are the years you spent building the key. I don’t depend on luck; I depend on consistency and faith. If anything, my luck has been having the kind of mindset that keeps me moving even when it feels like the world’s stacked against me
