Today we’d like to introduce you to Madeline Minor.
Hi Madeline, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I founded Anchor of Hope Counseling two years ago, fulfilling a long-held dream to have my own private practice. The name came to me one day—I felt God led me to the verse, Hebrews 6:19, which speaks of hope as “an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” I believe that Jesus is the anchor for the soul and has called and equipped me to help His people heal. That conviction is at the heart of everything I do in my practice. I’ve been working the business part-time, but I’m ready to make the leap to full-time, which is both exciting and a little nerve-wracking! What I absolutely love about this work is getting to witness people’s transformations. I love watching my clients develop a greater confidence in the strength they didn’t know they had —not just overcoming what’s going on currently, but moving forward with the tools and confidence to face future challenges.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This road has definitely had some challenges. There have been times when I have questioned my calling or felt lost as a new entrepreneur. But I keep leaning on my faith in God, and that’s helped me face those challenges head-on. Challenges are just opportunities to grow past your comfort zone. Right now, my focus is getting my name out there and building visibility for the practice. One of the best parts has been the people I’ve met on this journey! Through networking and building my personal and professional circle, I’ve connected with some wonderful people who’ve supported and guided me. I have BIG plans for Anchor of Hope! This is only the beginning.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Anchor of Hope was born out of a deeply personal moment. I was shocked when I first learned about the alarmingly high Black maternal mortality rate in this country. Those stats hit very close to home when my identical twin sister experienced challenges when bringing her last baby into the world. Black women (and women in general) are often forced to push emotions down and just keep going. There’s this unspoken belief that they do not have time to be depressed. So they could be experiencing postpartum depression and silently questioning whether their feelings are normal. So they struggle alone because there’s this fear that “if I tell someone, will my baby be taken from me?” This is my why I am so passionate about working with this population. I want Black mothers to know that, “I see you,” and this is a safe space. I also love working with Black millennial women. Like me and many in our community, we are raised to do what we’re told and “talking back” was not allowed. That often fosters people-pleasing behaviors that continue into adulthood, which I’m actively working to overcome too! Last but not least, working with couples and seeing them learn to heal their relationship brings me joy! We imitate what was learned, which causes us to replicate the sometimes unhealthy communication and conflict resolution patterns that we know.
What sets me apart is my transparency in sessions. I show up as my true self in our sessions and expect clients to do the same. I welcome the real them-the great, messy, and growing version of them. I encourage client feedback and regularly seek it. This is your healing journey- I act as a guide and to and provide you with the tools for growth . Also, I just started offering EMDR to my clients, which I am pretty excited about! It is a game-changer for trauma but also other concerns.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Most definitely! Keep your eye on Anchor of Hope Counseling because HUGE things are coming in our future! I’m so excited about the plans I have for Anchor of Hope’s expansion and all the ways I’ll be able to serve even more people. And if you are reading this but been hesitant about seeking help: you are worthy of growth, support, and healing. You deserve to meet the best version of yourself! It’s ok to not know where to start or not have it all together. I would be honored to guide you through the process.
