Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerrod Harrell.
Jerrod, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Thinking in retrospect is difficult for me because naturally, I am a forward thinker. I’m always looking ahead and not dwelling too much on the past. However, my journey all started in early 2003, at the age of 25, when I had just learned that the company that I had been with for over 7 years was shutting its doors due to some apparent financial issues. So, driving home that day with no job and tons of uncertainty, I prayed continuously for guidance and direction. And so after talking to my precious wife, Laure and my extremely wise pastor, I felt the Lord leading me to start my own business. I can still remember where I was standing when talking to my pastor on the phone and hearing him emphatically say and without hesitation, “Jerrod, you need to start your own business!” So the very next week, I signed a 1 year lease for 900sqft of Office space. And with the help of family, I purchased a few pieces of equipment and with less than $200 in my account, I started working.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Probably, the most challenging thing about starting any new business is learning how to wear multiple hats and possessing the innate ability to adapt to any situation. You may be the best of the best in your profession but that doesn’t mean you’re a natural at running and managing a company. The shortsighted, get rich tomorrow mentality doesn’t work in building a long-lasting company and reputable business.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are currently in the process of doubling our office space and staff to meet our ever-growing list of clients and customers. We are also looking at purchasing another land surveying firm within the greater Houston area to help further our expansion. With God and the team we have, nothing is beyond our reach.

My sons and I have had the great pleasure of using Texas Professional Survey Co twice in the past 6 years and could not be happier with his employees (in office and field) and the work done.
I originally called them because I knew Jerrod and Laurie personally and felt I wouldn’t be taken advantage of since I had recently been widowed. I don’t expect special treatment because of this or friendship but don’t want folks to stick it to me either.
His office staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The folks in the field do a great job and make sure to explain any anything and everything We needed to know.
