Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Speed.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
PlayMotion Kids began with a dream: to blend the power of yoga with my passion for helping kids and families.
Before that, I spent more than a decade working in social work and child welfare, where I saw firsthand how stress, trauma, and disconnection affect a child’s ability to thrive. When I became a yoga teacher, I started to notice how powerful mindfulness, movement, and music could be for helping kids regulate their emotions and connect with themselves in positive ways.
That’s what inspired me to bring together the importance of child welfare and the benefits of yoga into one program built around purposeful play. What began as a few small classes has grown into a thriving enrichment program for preschools and childcare centers across the Greater Houston area.
This year, I’ve had the joy of teaching more than 300 children, helping them build balance, confidence, and calm, one class at a time.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. I come from a social work background, so the business side of things like marketing, sales, and even learning to confidently talk about what I do, was a huge learning curve. I’ve had to figure out how to balance the heart of the work with the practical side of running a business. There are times when class attendance is slow or sales feel challenging, but those moments have taught me persistence and the importance of staying connected to my “why.”
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
PlayMotion Kids is a children’s enrichment program offering several different classes, all designed to combine movement, mindfulness, and music in different ways. We specialize in playful, purposeful classes for preschools and childcare centers, where fun and development go hand in hand.
What makes PlayMotion Kids different is the heart behind it. The program was created by blending my background in child welfare and social work with my training as a yoga teacher. Every activity is designed with intention, supporting not only physical coordination but also emotional regulation, social skills, and self-esteem.
I’m most proud when teachers and parents tell me that kids are talking about class during the week or practicing what they’ve learned outside the classroom. That’s how I know it’s making a difference, when the lessons of movement and mindfulness carry into everyday life.
What I want readers to know is that PlayMotion Kids is about more than fun and fitness. It’s a mission to help children grow confidently from the inside out. Every class is built with intention, blending movement, mindfulness, and music to help kids feel calm, confident, and capable long after class is over.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about Houston is the energy. There’s always something happening! From festivals and community events to new places to explore, it’s a city that keeps you connected. I love how people come together here and how there’s always a way to get involved or give back.
Living in Spring gives me the best of both worlds. I get the family-friendly feel of the suburbs while still being close to all that Houston has to offer.
What I like least? Definitely the traffic! But even with that, the endless opportunities make it worth it.
