Life & Work with Lavell Hamlin of Missouri City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lavell Hamlin.

Hi Lavell, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Lavell Hamlin, but I go by Keshawn. I’m 27 years old and have been a Houston resident for over 13 years, though I was originally born in Flint, Michigan. Moving to Houston was truly life-changing—it opened doors to new opportunities and allowed me to connect with people who are driven and ambitious.

After graduating high school, I began working at UPS as a warehouse supervisor. That role taught me valuable leadership and organizational skills, such as delegating tasks effectively and managing teams under pressure. Over time, I felt drawn toward entrepreneurship and creative expression, which led me to transition into modeling and eventually earn my real estate license.

Modeling has always been a passion of mine—I love bringing creative visions to life and expressing myself through art and storytelling. At the same time, real estate gives me a sense of purpose by allowing me to help others with one of the biggest milestones of their lives: purchasing a home. I take pride in serving my community, whether that’s through my work, volunteering, or giving back in any way I can.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road getting to where I am today. Growing up in an inner city with limited resources and little access to financial education can set you back quite a bit. I’m extremely grateful that I had a loving and supportive family who stood by me despite our circumstances.

Even after moving to Houston, life still came with its challenges, but one thing I’ve learned is how to adapt and keep pushing forward. Through it all, God has been with me—never leaving nor forsaking me—and that faith has helped me overcome so much.

Becoming an entrepreneur was especially challenging because most of my family comes from a working-class background. I didn’t really have anyone who could guide me through that journey firsthand. Thankfully, I was blessed to find mentors and coaches who helped me transition into entrepreneurship and stay focused on my goals.

I once read a quote that says, “It takes 10 years to become an overnight success.” That really stuck with me because it reminds me that nothing worth having comes easy. So my advice to anyone starting their journey as an entrepreneur is to embrace the learning curve, stay consistent, and trust the process—your breakthrough will come.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I was born to be a creative. I’ve always seen myself as an innovator and visionary who finds true joy in creating and bringing ideas to life through self-expression. I’ve been modeling freelance for about seven or eight years, and more recently, I’ve stepped into the world of content creation.

As a realtor, I’m excited to merge my creativity with my business—using my passion for storytelling and visual expression to grow my brand and connect with people on a deeper level. Beyond business, I want to inspire others to express themselves freely and live in their truth. Be who you’re destined to be, because no one else can be you but you.

How do you define success?
To me, success is so much more than just financial gain. I believe true success is finding peace and fulfillment in whatever it is you’re doing. It’s about staying true to your values and core beliefs while creating an environment that feels safe, positive, and uplifting—not just for yourself, but also for your family and your community.
