Hidden Gems: Meet Jonathan Marshall of TotalHome Hub

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Marshall.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey to founding TotalHome Hub started with a simple realization. Managing a home shouldn’t be this complicated.

As a Director of Engineering, father of six, college student, and entrepreneur, I had plenty on my plate. What really struck me was how difficult it was to stay on top of home maintenance, warranties, repairs, and figuring out which projects I could tackle myself versus when to call a professional. I kept thinking there has to be a better way.

TotalHome Hub is designed to help homeowners take control of their biggest investment by combining home management, intelligent maintenance scheduling, and smart decision-making tools in one place. We believe every homeowner deserves access to these tools, not just those who can afford expensive services.

The journey hasn’t been easy. With my extremely limited time availability, we’ve had to be realistic about timelines and ruthlessly prioritize. That constraint has actually made us sharper. We focus only on what truly matters to homeowners.

We’re preparing for our beta launch by the end of the year, and I’m excited about making home ownership manageable, even for the busiest families.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road. The biggest challenge has been time. Between my full-time role as Director of Engineering, raising six kids, being in college, and running a side business with my wife, finding the hours to build TotalHome Hub has required some serious sacrifice and discipline. There were plenty of late nights and early mornings where I questioned if I could keep all these plates spinning.

The technical side has had its own hurdles. We started with one platform and realized we needed to migrate our entire backend to scale properly. That meant essentially rebuilding parts of the foundation while still moving forward with new features. It’s like changing the tires on a moving car.

Finding the right balance between perfection and progress has been tough too. As an engineer, I want everything to work flawlessly. As a founder with limited time, I’ve had to learn when good enough is actually good enough so we can keep moving forward. That’s been a mental shift.

Working mostly solo in the early stages means every decision about what to build, what to prioritize, and where to invest my limited energy has real weight. I can’t afford to chase every shiny feature or pivot on a whim. I have to be disciplined and focused on what actually solves problems for homeowners.

Those constraints have forced me to get really clear on what matters and to be efficient with the time I do have.

As you know, we’re big fans of TotalHome Hub. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
TotalHome Hub is an all-in-one home management platform built for real homeowners dealing with real problems. We help people take control of their biggest investment without needing to be a home improvement expert.

What sets us apart is that we’re not just another task list app or maintenance reminder tool. We’ve built an intelligent system that helps homeowners make better decisions about their homes. We bring together the tools and information homeowners need in one place instead of having it scattered across drawers, apps, and sticky notes.

We specialize in making the complicated simple. Home ownership comes with hundreds of moving parts, and most people are just winging it. We give homeowners the tools and intelligence they need to stay ahead of problems instead of constantly reacting to them.

We built TotalHome Hub as a Progressive Web App, or PWA. That means it works through your web browser instead of downloading from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. You can still add it to your home screen and use it just like a regular app, with the same functionality and experience. As a startup, keeping costs low is critical, and the traditional app stores come with significant fees and ongoing costs that don’t make financial sense at this stage. A PWA gives us the flexibility to deliver a great product without those barriers.

That decision to go with a PWA is what enables us to offer a free version and keep our premium pricing so low. There’s a free tier to get started, and our feature-rich premium options begin at just $2 a month. Too many solutions in this space are either overpriced or overly complicated. We wanted to create something that any homeowner could use and afford, regardless of their technical skill level or budget.

We’re preparing for launch, and from our website interested users can sign up for our launch list to stay updated on our progress. They can also indicate if they’d like to be considered as a beta tester to get early access and help shape the final product.

At the end of the day, TotalHome Hub is about giving people confidence and peace of mind. Home ownership shouldn’t feel overwhelming. We’re building the tool I wish I’d had from day one.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Self improvement books, Simon Sinek is awesome. I love to diy and do what I can on my own, so reading stuff online or watching videos about various diy topics is a common theme for me.
