Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Kail.
Hi Paige, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve loved animals for as long as I can remember. As a kid growing up in Texas, I was the one bringing home frogs, turtles, and the occasional orphaned kitten. That early curiosity and compassion turned into a lifelong calling placed upon my heart.
I’m a proud native Texan and Aggie, having earned both my undergraduate and veterinary degrees from Texas A&M University. After graduation, I took a leap of faith and moved to the Pacific Northwest to begin my emergency veterinary career near Tacoma, Washington. The expereince was incredible, but eventually, Texas called me home.
When I joined VEG ER for Pets, I found a team that deeply aligned with my values: putting people and pets first, especially in their most vulnerable moments. With the mentorship and leadership support here, I transitioned from an ER doctor to a Medical Director, later taking on a dual-site role overseeing our Houston and Katy hospitals. Today, as Senior Hospital Director, I’m honored to help guide and grow a team of exceptional doctors and nurses who share that same passion for emergency medicine.
At my core, I’m driven by the human-animal bond-advocating for it, nurturing it, and ensuring that every interaction honors the trust pets and their people place in us. Clinically, I’m passionate about emergency surgery and mentoring new veterinarians as they discover their own strengths in this fast-paced, rewarding field. Emergency medicine has allowed me to live out my purpose of helping people and pets when they need it most.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The transition from an animal-loving student to practicing veterinarian was as humbling as it was rewarding. Emergency medicine demands a level of emotional resilience that I didn’t fully understand until I lived it – facing loss, uncertainty, and the weight of others’ emotions daily while still needing to lead with compassion and clarity.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that no one thrives alone in emergency medicine. Success in this field depends on teamwork, trust, and the shared emotional strength of your team. I’ve learned that leading well means caring for your people as intentionally as you care for your patients. It is vital to recognize how to support one another without losing yourself to the weight of the work. ER medicine can be unpredictable, heartbreaking, and deeply human all at once. Early in my career, I though success meant being unshakable, but I’ve since learned that real success is found in staying open-hearted through it all. Keep pushing yourself to show up with empathy, even on the hardest days. The balance of strength and softness is what sustains you long term, and what allows you to make a lasting impact on both people and pets. Also, laugh, a lot. And, expect the unexpected.
