Inspiring Conversations with Ashlee Flournoy of Guided Transformation Counseling Center, PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlee Flournoy.

Hi Ashlee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey started in high school when I took my first psychology class. It was then I knew I wanted to be a therapist or psychologist. I went to school for psychology for my bachelor’s degree. However, after graduating I decided to become a teacher. While working with my students I realized they had issues that were beyond their academic or intellectual ability that were impacting them from doing well in the classroom. I decided to go back to school for school counseling. Once I graduated with the school counseling degree, I realized that a lot of the issues my students were facing were coming from home. This prompted me to go back to school for clinical mental health counseling. I have been in the counseling field in total now for about 10 years. I am currently working as the owner and Clinical Director of Guided Transformation Counseling Center. Through God’s guidance I began working on my private practice in 2020 and officially opened in 2021. Most recently I’ve opened up the practice to include a graduate intern and prayerfully will continue to expand the practice in the future.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been a smooth road. There were several roadblocks and struggles professionally and personally that I had to endure to get where I am today. I dealt with conflict and mistreatment from coworkers, paying for graduate school out of pocket, and following God’s plan when it wasn’t always my plan. Even blessings like getting married and starting a family impacted the journey. As I was working my internship, I was hospitalized for emergency surgery and was on bedrest for several months. I also had to overcome getting my clinical hours and starting my business during the Covid Pandemic. I built my practice with some money I’d saved and furniture out of my house. Today, I can honestly say that God guided me through it all to ensure that the plans He had for me would come to fruition.

As you know, we’re big fans of Guided Transformation Counseling Center, PLLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Guided Transformation Counseling Center is a psychotherapy private practice located in Houston, TX that focuses on mental health and wellness. Our motto is “Guiding clients through transforming their lives one session at a time”. The practice mainly focuses on individual counseling for issues like anxiety, depression, major life transitions, personal development, relationships, and Christian counseling. We also offer couples and family counseling. What sets us apart is the genuine commitment to helping others transform their lives. At the same time, we are in the movement with other practices to promote taking care of your mental and emotional health. I want readers to know that your mental health is just as important as your physical health. There’s no shame in seeing a counselor and it doesn’t mean that you aren’t trusting God. It means that you care about your overall health and wellness.
Lastly, I recently published a therapy journal for clients to use as an aid in their transformation journey. It’s available on Amazon, titled My Therapy Journal: A Guide for Your Therapy Sessions.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the heart of Houston!!! I was born and raised here, and it will always be home. From the music, food, and down south hospitality, people know when you are from H-town! However, the influx in population is making traffic everywhere!
