Hi Greilan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I began my DJ journey over a decade ago, spinning tracks for family gatherings and private events. Before long, I found myself behind the decks at college parties and clubs, sharpening my skills and learning how to move a crowd. But it wasn’t until I started DJing weddings that I truly found my passion.
I began focusing almost exclusively on weddings, collaborating with other companies across the city to bring unforgettable music experiences to couples on their big day. After the pandemic, I saw an opportunity to take things to the next level — and that’s when DJ Chosen Weddings and Events was born.
I started booking weddings on my own across Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, and Fredericksburg, earning incredible feedback and building a strong reputation for creating unforgettable celebrations. As demand grew, I knew it was time to expand.
That’s when Chosen Event Group came to life — a collective of open-format DJs with deep hip-hop roots, dedicated to delivering incredible wedding parties for anyone who loves great music and good vibes.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced has been helping others understand the vision. I’ve always believed that true partnership is the fastest path to success, but finding the right partner hasn’t been easy. It takes someone who not only sees the vision but also has the resources and patience to build a business like this from the ground up. Many people expect quick returns, but the reality is that weddings are often planned a year in advance — this industry requires long-term thinking, consistency, and faith in the process.
Fortunately, I was able to secure the resources that allowed me to invest in myself and build independently. It wasn’t easy — in fact, it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done — but I made it happen.
We’ve been impressed with Chosen Event Group, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Chosen Event Group is a collective of open-format DJs with deep hip-hop roots, dedicated to creating unforgettable celebrations for anyone who loves great music and good vibes. We provide DJ services, photo booths, lighting, cold sparks, and “dancing on a cloud” effects for weddings, corporate events, and private parties.
What sets us apart is our style, energy, and presentation. We bring top-of-the-line equipment to every event and deliver a professional experience from start to finish. We handle all your formal moments with precision and class — and when it’s time to party, we turn up the energy and keep the dance floor packed all night long.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
With new venues popping up all across Texas, I see us expanding into even more markets and building strong partnerships with venues and vendors statewide. Looking ahead, I also envision us taking our talents beyond Texas — traveling for destination weddings and bringing the Chosen Event Group experience to couples wherever their celebration takes them.
