We recently had the chance to connect with Aesha Egbuna and have shared our conversation below.
Aesha, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day look like time to myself. First, I pray and set my intentions for the day. Then I spend about 30 minutes responding to emails, sending emails, and creating content. I grow food at home, so the next 45 minutes are spent in my garden watering and observing the plants and taking care of my quail. My husband is normally leaving for work around this time so a goodbye kiss is somewhere in there, lol. Time in the garden is not just about maintenance, but also about peace. I homeschool, so once I come in from the garden it is time to make breakfast and wake my babies up. I start my day early so that I can start it alone and in my own energy. Then I am ready for everyone else.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Peace! My name is Aesha Egbuna and I am a self-taught ladysmith, which means that I make jewelry by hand using traditional metalsmithing techniques. I am a former navy wife and becoming a military spouse really helped me develop my business. I wanted to have work that I could pack up and move to wherever my husband was stationed and I did just that! I have been in the jewelry business for over 10 years now and that passion has grown into planning events for high end black businesses! There is a huge need to strengthen the black community in a way that Black Wallstreet did and I have found purpose in creating events that connect the community and give them a great experience at the same time! In addition to business, I am an advocate for learning how to grow and preserve your own food. I believe that there is strength, power, health and security in growing your own food. I have even started a YouTube channel to show what I have learned. Overall, I am a creative who is growing and moving in her purpose.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My mom is the hardest working person that I know! She taught me work ethic. To do my best not for the accolades, but so that I am proud of my work. My work will speak for me and I don’t have to say a word. Through her I learned about showing up for myself and my team when needed. My Dad taught me balance. When you work hard, don’t forget to play hard, too!
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Anytime in my life that I felt suffering or like I was going through a hard time it grew me in ways that I don’t think I would have grown if it had not been for that experience. At times we go through things that feel so hard, but if you let them they will become life lessons. At times you will find new passion and purpose after an unforgettable negative experience. Suffering has taught me to never learn the same lesson twice. It has also taught me to be in a continuous state of gratitude, because life is good and I feel the opposite of suffering way more often than I suffer.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that treating people well matters to me. I am a very fair person and I speak up when I feel someone isn’t being treated right. They would have to mention how much I love my community! I will never forget where I came from and I am always looking for ways to uplift my people. That goes for those that are close in proximity and those who are community by culture.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
I am currently tap dancing to work! I love what I do! My Fall Sip N’ Shop is coming up on November 29, 2025. Not only am I planning the whole thing, I am also selling my jewelry there. This will be my first time showing my work at my own event and I am really planning the event of my dreams! Every promotion, every community contact, and every piece of jewelry that I have made getting ready for this event has had me on a high!
