Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Patrice GRIFFIN of Downtown

We recently had the chance to connect with Patrice GRIFFIN and have shared our conversation below.

Patrice, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
I believe that people are struggling with depression and anxiety.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi my name is Patrice Griffin. I am a military veteran, model, author and founder of a non profit called Patrices Kids Inc. My mission is to bring awareness to child abuse. To educate the public through education, legislation and prevention. As a survivor of child abuse myself i felt that it was my duty to fight for the safety of children and their mental health. I’m also the Brand Ambassador for a clothing designer in Germany named Jean Koute, We linked up to also bring awareness through his clothing line. Several of his pieces include spikes on his clothing which represents keeping your hands off children and each purchase goes to donating to my nonprofit. In turn i throw back to school drives and holiday events for children in underserved communities in Houston Tx. I also have hired mental health experts to teach trainings on my website to help prevent and bring awareness to child abuse. There is nothing more important than the love and protection of all children.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was when i obtained my college degree. As a child i had lots of challenges learning and retaining the information so i always was under the impression that i was a slow learner. I later found out that that was not the case. I was having difficulties because of the child abuse that i had endured ,but through healing and therapy i was able to see that i could do anything i put my mind too. That was one of the most powerful and proud moments for me.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me that strength isn’t loud or confident: its quiet, patient and often visible> its getting up one more time when no one is watching me, Success made me proud and suffering made me real.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m committed to fighting for the safety of children from child abuse. I have dedicated my life to this project and cause.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely, i feel as though my passion for whatever that project is praise enough. Sometimes you need to pat yourself on the back and say good job to yourself, Whatever your passion is you are doing it for the love not the accolades.
