Dejaih Smith on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Dejaih Smith and have shared our conversation below.

Dejaih, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Since I work in social media, getting off the internet and touching grass is very important. Traveling and voice lessons are what always bring me joy outside of work.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
As an advancing marketing professional, Dejaih Smith [like déjà vu in French] is a digital marketer focused on curating digital experiences, strengthening intuitive thought in upper-funnel marketing.

She established this position from her experience in varying digital content marketing roles like content writer, social media manager, and influencer marketing/talent manager – agency side and at some of your favorite legacy brands.

She loves to immerse herself in the “what’s next” happenings in the industry by conducting trend analysis. Her creative and data-driven approach has enabled her to stay ahead on emerging innovative strategies from influencer marketing to neuromarketing.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I always have been creative and curious, so sticking to “coloring in the lines” of life was never in the cards for me. I was a “why?” kid. I was always asking why to everything. I feel like society or the world wants you to stick to the status quo to maintain current hierarchies, but my creativity and curiosity have been my guiding light(s) to who I am today. I almost let the world change that about me. Now that I fully trust my intuition, I know my way is best for me.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Being in my “darkroom” or development times, I knew God was making arrangements for me, but I learned to match God’s energy. My discipline is so strong because I’m committed to being who I say I am stripped down from all the titles and rewards I hold and will hold. Going through those tough times taught me I had everything it takes for the recipe for success even resource-less.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
1,000%! What you see online of me is what you get. I’m not a good faker, so how I feel and express myself is who I am.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Doubting myself. I’ve improved over the last two years especially on this. In a world already rooting for your downfall, you don’t have time to count yourself out too. I’ve made actionable steps to improve my foresight and intuitive thought process while noticing how the adjustments impacted me. Now, I want to give all my ideas and concepts equal opportunity and try exploring them with not regrets.
