Chris Holmes on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Chris Holmes . Check out our conversation below.

Hi Chris, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I enjoy doing open mic and enjoying the arts of many artists from poets, singers and more. Creativity is like a nice escape for me. Additionally I love doing fitness to stay in shape and keep myself motivated.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a very creative person who involves myself in production. I’m originally from Huntsville, TX, and I constantly travel around or in the Houston area. I believe everyone has a story to tell. There are many ways to tell that story through photography, poetry, music, film, and much more.

I also produce podcasts. Additionally, I have published nine books and love to inspire others by speaking and freestyling poetry. I try my best to encourage others to live their lives to the fullest or even talk on one of my podcast platforms, such as Next Level Thinking.

My production company, Soul Production, pushes all this and more.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
It’s a list of many people—not just one. I have had mentors who made an impact on my life. I have faced different challenges to help me stay on the correct path. Professors and educators lay a foundation through teaching, family, and speakers telling their stories. Overall, it’s having the strength to overcome and learn from your adversity.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Believe in yourself and know that you will be okay. I will tell myself this. Fears can prevent you from pursuing your passion, so trust yourself; I would say that in encouragement.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Be yourself and stop comparing yourself to others. We live in a life of social media likes and following. I understand the trend, but don’t let that be your reference for validation. Yes, social media is a tool for promotion and fun, but don’t get discouraged by it. Many impactful people make a difference; not all are on the internet. They can even be in your own neighborhood.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
Listening to music and calm sounds. Also times in water is a nice escape as well.
