Ambreen Uddin shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Ambreen , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I generally start my day with a quick workout and a prayer. Then I have the pleasure of eating breakfast with my three beautiful daughters.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am the founder and lead designer of Ambreen Uddin Interiors. My background is in Audit, however design has always been my passion.
For me, design has never been just about furniture or finishes — it’s about telling a story. When I step into a project, I see it as my client’s vision, but told through my eyes and my taste. I want each space to feel bold, meaningful, and completely personal.
I find inspiration everywhere. It might be in the quiet corners of a bookstore, the warmth of a coffee shop, the way leaves change color in the fall, or my travels through Europe. Those little details, those moments, they stay with me and show up in how I approach design. But the most important inspiration always comes from my clients. I love to sit and listen to who they are — what they value, how they live, what makes them feel at home. That’s where the process really begins.
My style leans modern, but it always adapts to the person I’m designing for. I love the energy of trends, but I never design just for the moment. I think about how a space will age, how it will grow with my clients. I like to balance what feels fresh today with timeless pieces that will always hold their place. To me, the best spaces are the ones that can evolve but never lose their beauty.
More than anything, I want my work to make people feel. When you walk into a space I’ve designed, I hope you feel a spark of emotion — a sense of comfort, beauty, and belonging. Because in the end, it’s not just about creating a home. It’s about creating a story that is bold, layered, and entirely yours.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before titles and careers, before I learned to introduce myself by my degree or profession, I was simply someone who was captivated by beauty. My very first love was flowers. Growing up in Pakistan, I was mesmerized by the way colors, textures, and fragrances could completely transform a space. Flowers weren’t just decorative — they told a story, and from an early age, I knew I wanted to create that kind of magic.
At 12, I designed my first outfit. It wasn’t just about fabric or cut; it was about expression, about bringing boldness and individuality into the everyday. Years later, I worked side by side with my aunt to dream up a one-of-a-kind concept for my wedding dress — a risk at the time, but one that felt authentic to who I was. I realize now that taking risks in design has always been a part of me. I’ve always been drawn to that spark, that ah-hah moment when something unexpected comes together and just works.
Life took me into auditing for many years. And while I valued that chapter and it gave me the discipline and structure to run a business, it was never where my soul lived. I always felt design tugging at me, waiting for me to claim it fully. Today, in interior design, I finally feel in my element. This is where the worlds of who I always was — the dreamer, the risk taker, the storyteller — meet the skills I honed as a professional. It’s where I belong.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely. There was a season where I felt torn between what I was “supposed” to be doing and what I truly loved. I had built a solid career in auditing — on paper it looked successful, but inside I felt restless. I remember late nights at my desk when I would wonder if the little girl who designed outfits at twelve and spent hours arranging flowers would even recognize me anymore.
The idea of starting over felt overwhelming. Walking away from a safe path to build something as personal as an interior design firm — especially without formal training — was terrifying. There were moments where I thought, maybe this is unrealistic… maybe I should just stay where I am.
But every time I doubted myself, that same spark that’s guided me since I was a child would nudge me forward. I’d see a color palette, or a space that needed a story, and feel that pull again. And slowly I realized the fear of staying the same was bigger than the fear of starting over.
Stepping fully into design hasn’t been easy, but it’s the most alive I’ve ever felt. That period of doubt taught me resilience, and it’s why today I approach every project with gratitude and boldness — because I know what it took to get here.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, absolutely. I believe in authenticity. It’s what allows me to attract and work with clients who hire me not just for my designs, but for me. When I show up as myself, I create real connections — the kind that last, the kind that make projects meaningful and partnerships stronger.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I want to live fully in the moment for the people I love. They are my greatest motivation and my grounding force. Being present with them — in the little, ordinary moments — matters more to me than any achievement ever could.
I believe in improving every single day, in becoming a better version of myself bit by bit. My motto has always been progress over perfection. Perfection isn’t real — but growth is. If I can learn, evolve, and show up more intentionally today than I did yesterday, then I know I’m on the right path.
What people say about me after I’m gone matters less than how I choose to show up every single day. For me, it’s about presence, progress, and living in a way that feels authentic — both in my work and in my life.
