Rising Stars: Meet CitySlicka Fresh of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to CitySlicka Fresh.

Hi CitySlicka, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
**“I’m CitySlicka Fresh — born and raised between Alief and Mission Bend, Houston. Music’s always been my outlet — a way to translate what I see and live every day. I started freestyling with my partners on the block, turning real stories into rhymes. Over time, people started feeling the authenticity — because it wasn’t made-up, it was lived.

I took a break for a couple years to refocus, learn the business, and come back sharper — not just as an artist, but as a brand. Now I’m back building momentum with a new sound that represents where I’m from — gritty, soulful, and true to the pavement. CitySlicka Fresh is about bridging worlds — street and strategy, art and hustle.”**

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not a smooth road. I’ve had to learn everything the hard way — from bad deals and fake love to trying to balance real life with the music grind. There were times I had the talent but not the direction, times I had the buzz but not the consistency.

Taking a step back during my hiatus was tough, but it taught me patience and self-worth. I learned how to move smarter, not just faster. Every setback shaped the mindset I got now — one focused on ownership, longevity, and legacy. Nothing about it was easy, but that’s what makes the story worth telling.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an artist, storyteller, and strategist. I create music that represents both sides of Houston — Alief /Mission Bend — areas with their own culture and heartbeat. My sound blends real street perspective with reflection and game — what I call Slick Talk.

I specialize in making timeless records with substance, even when it’s street. I’m known for my delivery — calm but commanding — and for saying a lot with a few words. Every bar got intention behind it.

What I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come independently. I’ve built my brand off networking, consistency, and staying authentic when everyone else is chasing trends. What sets me apart is that I’m not trying to fit into Houston — I’m redefining how our side of the city gets represented. I’m bringing back that early 2000s feel — the gold grill era — but with new vision and structure

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years, you’re going to see music less about falling into one big label machine and more about who can build a real ecosystem around their voice. Tech will open doors but won’t replace what makes you you. For someone like me — grounded in Houston street sounds, representing Alief & Mission Bend — the opportunity is to own that identity, amplify it globally, and control how the story is told. The game will favour creators who move fast, stay real, and build their own lane.”
