L.J., we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began writing poetry during my elementary school years in Toledo, Ohio. Motivated by my older sister, a childhood crush served as the impetus that expanded my awareness of the incredible opportunities associated with creativity. Subsequently, my writing progressed into songs, short narratives, and material focused on self-help and personal growth. Over two decades later, life has imparted numerous lessons to me, which I utilize to inspire and empower those who engage with my work, witness my performances, or listen to my interviews and speeches. As a celebrated national award-winning creative and author, I have traveled extensively across the country, fortunate to have the chance to influence countless lives throughout this journey.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey has certainly not been easy; nevertheless, writing has consistently served as my refuge during times of chaos, disappointment, and sorrow. Among the challenges I have faced are failed relationships, divorce, unexpected loss, health crises, unemployment, homelessness, and financial hardship. Despite these trials, my faith in God, in myself, and in my work has propelled me onward with a singular objective: to dismantle every generational curse affecting my life and to transform into the best version of myself.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a renowned author and spoken word artist, focusing on creating transformative content that others can utilize to navigate the intricacies of life, dating, and relationships. I am recognized for my spoken word performances, my seven published poetry collections, and my self-help book titled MAN CODES: DeCODED – A Woman’s Guide to Overcoming MANiPULATION. I take the greatest pride in that book. It has served to empower thousands of women with the insight necessary to confront manipulative men and avoid abusers and emotional terrorists. My passion and love for individuals and their holistic development and welfare distinguishes me from others. I am on a divine mission to make a positive difference in as many lives as possible through service and the sharing of wisdom that can transform the trajectory of their lives in remarkable ways.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
The culture, creativity, and freedom of expression is what I like best about our city. The traffic is what I like least.
