Today we’d like to introduce you to Magi Romero.
Hi Magi, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hey, I’m Magi — a pet and family portrait photographer based in Houston, Texas! My love for photography started back in high school when my mom gifted me my very first camera. It wasn’t fancy, but it sparked something in me. I photographed everything — classmates in the library, flowers on walks, and plenty of self-portraits just for fun. I didn’t know it then, but that simple joy of capturing moments would grow into my dream career.
After moving from Florida to Texas in 2014, I jumped headfirst into the photography world — working in portrait studios, connecting with Houston’s creative community, and saying “yes” to every chance to learn and create. Over the years, I’ve had the joy of seeing my work featured in Swanky Magazine and Hazl Magazine, and of working with incredible pet organizations like Revival Dog Training, Peace Love Dogs, and Animal Justice League.
Today, I run Fetching Snapshots full-time, blending creativity, connection, and a whole lot of love for dogs (and their humans). Every click of my camera is a reminder that I’m living my dream — capturing the joy, personality, and bond that make each session unforgettable.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all — but I think that’s what makes the journey so meaningful. Photography started as a fun hobby for me, something I fell in love with while learning the ropes in a studio. When I decided to go freelance, I was still working full-time, trying to balance it all and figure out where I fit in the photography world.
There were times I walked away from it completely — twice, actually — in the last eleven years. Each time, I thought maybe it just wasn’t meant to be. But something always pulled me back. In 2018, when I decided to give it another go, I was still searching for my “why.” It wasn’t until I started photographing dogs that everything clicked. That’s when I realized this wasn’t just a job or a hobby anymore — it was my calling.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Pet + Family Photographer who specializes in capturing the bond between pets and the people who love them most. My sessions are all about patience, connection, and heart. I’m known for creating a calm and welcoming space where even the most nervous pets can relax and shine in front of the camera. Clients often tell me they appreciate how I take my time to let their pets settle in — never rushing the process — because that’s when the magic really happens.
What I’m most proud of is how much I’ve grown with my business. Every day brings something new to learn — whether it’s refining lighting techniques, building stronger relationships with clients, or navigating the ups and downs of running a small business.
What truly sets me apart is my compassion for both people and their pets. I understand how deeply our fur babies become part of our families, and I pour my heart into capturing that love — those little looks, cuddles, and moments that mean everything.
How do you define success?
Success can mean so many different things, but for me, it’s simple — it’s when my clients come back year after year. Watching their lives grow and change, from their first session with their fur babies to welcoming little human babies into the family, is the greatest honor.
That, to me, is success — knowing they trust me to capture their most meaningful moments. Seeing those photographs displayed in their homes, becoming part of their family’s story, reminds me why I do what I do. It’s not just about taking pictures; it’s about preserving love, growth, and connection through every stage of life.
