Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamari Williams.
Hi Tamari, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Tamari Williams. I started doing hair at the age of 15 the year Covid 19 began. The month of March to be exact, I first got into making wigs. In the beginning it was a struggle, it took me about 2 days to just make one wig. Working those 2 days I began very frustrated knowing I could do it but I had a hard time. Within that time I repeated to myself that I could do all things through Christ that strengthens me. That has kept me going through my entire career for 6 years now.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of my biggest obstacles was getting through cosmetology school. I attended Ms Robert’s Beauty Academy for 2 years. As any new stylist, the challenge was learning the basics. European braiding techniques, finger waves, roller sets, perm sets, etc. The basics were hard but the school work( theory) was harder. We had to pass every floor work with a 5 & written test with a 80% or better. By the end of the program we had to pass a 400 question test & along with a 8 hour practical & has to pass with a 75% or better. Once we passed that we had to go to the state & do a 100 question test to officially become a licensed stylist. With every test, tear & struggle it was all worth & I became a licensed stylist October 2025.
