Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Gutierrez.
Hi Ana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Ana Gutiérrez. I am a Sports Nutritionist and athlete. My passion for health, wellness, and sports has shaped both my personal and professional life. I studied nutrition because I’ve always been fascinated by how food impacts our energy, performance, and overall well-being. More importantly, I wanted to help people live fuller, healthier lives.
After earning my degree, I specialized in Sports Nutrition through the International Olympic Committee, which allowed me to combine my love for science, nutrition and sport. I’m also an athlete myself: I’ve completed seven marathons (including Boston twice), several half marathons, and triathlons. Those experiences have taught me firsthand how powerful proper fueling and hydration can be, not only for performance but for recovery, enjoyment, and longevity in sport.
Today, I run my private practice, Ana Sports Nutrition, where I work with athletes of all levels, from recreational runners to competitive triathletes, helping them optimize their nutrition for training, racing, and everyday life. I see clients both in person and virtually, which allows me to support people locally and across different regions.
Beyond performance, my approach focuses on balance and education. Teaching my clients to listen to their bodies, build a healthy relationship with food, and understand that nutrition is about fueling potential, not restriction.
Outside of my work, I’m a proud mom of two, and I’m currently training for my next triathlon. Juggling family, training, and business isn’t always easy, but it keeps me grounded and connected to the same challenges many of my clients face: finding balance, energy, and joy through movement and mindful nutrition.
Ultimately, my mission is simple: to empower people to feel their best, perform their best, and live fully through intentional, science-based, sports nutrition.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like many entrepreneurs, my path hasn’t been a straight line. I’m originally from Mexico City, where after college I began working as a nutritionist for a large company. After a few years, I decided to follow my passion and open my own private practice. It was thriving, and I loved the personal connection I had with my clients.
But life took me on a new adventure, my husband and I moved to New York, and I had to close my business. Starting over in a new country, far from my family, and later becoming a mom of two was both beautiful and challenging. Those years taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of flexibility; not only as a professional but as a person.
After five years in New York, we relocated to Texas, and I once again started my business from scratch. Rebuilding my practice in a new place, with a new community, and in a different language has been an incredible learning experience. It hasn’t always been easy, but it has been deeply rewarding.
Every step, from Mexico City to New York to Texas has reminded me why I love what I do. Helping others live healthier, fuller lives gives meaning to all the challenges. Today, I feel grateful for the journey because it has shaped not only my career but also the way I connect with my clients: with empathy, understanding, and a deep appreciation for growth and change.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a sports nutritionist specializing in helping endurance athletes: runners, triathletes, and cyclists fuel and hydrate properly so they can perform their best, recover well, and enjoy their sport to the fullest.
Through my practice, Ana Sports Nutrition, I work with clients both in person and virtually, offering personalized nutrition plans, body composition analysis, and ongoing support to help them reach their goals in a sustainable way. I also guide people who simply want to improve their eating habits, energy levels, health, or relationship with food, not just athletes.
What I’m most proud of is the impact my work has on people’s confidence and performance. Seeing an athlete achieve a personal record, finish a race strong, or feel energized in their training because their nutrition is finally working for them, that’s incredibly rewarding.
I think what sets me apart is that I combine scientific knowledge with real-life experience. I don’t believe in restrictive diets or “one-size-fits-all” advice. My focus is on education, balance, and empowerment, helping people understand their bodies and make informed choices that feel sustainable long term.
What makes you happy?
What truly makes me happy is being able to work on something I genuinely love. I feel very grateful that my career aligns so closely with my passions: health, wellness, and sports. I get to practice what I preach every day and live the same lifestyle I encourage in others.
I also love that my work allows me to connect with amazing and inspiring people. Every client has a story, a goal, and a reason behind what they do, and being part of that journey is incredibly rewarding. There’s nothing better than seeing someone feel stronger, more confident, and proud of what their body can do when it’s properly fueled.
And now that I’m a mom, one of the most rewarding parts of my life is being able to teach my kids to eat well and to love sports too. It’s so special to see them grow up appreciating movement, balance, and the joy of taking care of their bodies. I love it when they ask to come running with me or to take them for a bike ride.
