Meet Dustin Nitz of D-FIT Hybrid Training

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dustin Nitz.

Hi Dustin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I moved to Texas in 2012 after graduating with my Masters in Community Nutrition and Health Promotion from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. Since I have moved here I have worked for myself as an entrepreneur in the fitness industry, looking to change people’s lives by teaching them about the importance of cardio and strength training, nutrition and making healthy lifestyle changes. Personal training, small group training and nutrition are some of the programs I offer to help those who are searching for knowledge around these topics or needed an accountability partner to establish their own discipline. After 10 years of working with a large company in large group fitness, I decided it was time to build my own brand, so I launched D-FIT Hybrid Training. D-FIT Hybrid Training includes programs and training options for everyone, no matter where your journey is at. Now I have clients in Large Group Fitness, Small Group Fitness, Personal Training, Workout Programming and Nutrition Planning. Most of my clients are in-person, but I also have virtual personal training sessions available. There are some other things I do for clients and meet them where they are and what they need. The beautiful thing about owning my own business is I can do consultations with people, see what they need and create something specifically for them and their needs if what I already have on my website is not exactly what they wanted. When you love what you get to do each day, it’s easy to build genuine relationships with clients and share in their success stories.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road, but I believe that is what makes being where I am now so enjoyable. Growing a business has ups and downs and sometimes you wonder if you will make it. However, I have had a solid base of clients since I have moved here that have supported me and have become family to me. Through many hard times I opened up to them and they encouraged me, which gave me the confidence to keep going. When I initially moved here, I would travel to clients’ homes to train them. This led to vehicle issues and maintenance problems that it was hard to make enough to sustain those expenses. However, as the number of clients grew from referrals, it became easier. Then I started adding programs like small group training and large group fitness that helped bridge the gaps. Finally, I was able to save money to buy new equipment and really dig in to build the business. Just like in most businesses, sustaining the expenses long enough to grow the number of clients you serve is what will help keep you afloat long enough to see the success you desired to accomplish and reach the goals and dreams you initially sought after.

As you know, we’re big fans of D-FIT Hybrid Training. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am a Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Nutritionist. I also have a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and Exercise Science and Master’s Degree in Community Nutrition and Health Promotion. D-FIT Hybrid Training is all about helping each client reach their fitness or nutrition goals. There is no quick-fix to achieving your goals, and so there’s no magic juice sold here. Our clients receive accountability with each program they purchase. The fitness programs are more of a functional style of training, formatted to fit how your body would move on a daily basis. It’s critical to use proper form and range of motion to help prevent injury. Training for those movements and building stamina through those movements will keep you going as you age in life. On the nutrition side, we focus on sustainability and achievability of results. Instead of restricting large amounts of calories and having you eat things you wouldn’t otherwise normally eat, you get programming that is easier to introduce into your current lifestyle habits and means you have small changes that are easier to do and more likely to adopt as a permanent lifestyle changer. We like to focus on getting you to 80 years old instead of just to 8 weeks down the road. It took a lifetime of behaviors to get you where you are, so we are going to slowly change the habits that need tweaking to get you the rest of your lifetime with success and habits that you can maintain.

What are your plans for the future?
My plan is to serve as many people that feel D-FIT Hybrid Training is a good fit for them. Although D-FIT Hybrid Training doesn’t have a brick and mortar, it allows us to stay focused on the client and our purpose instead of concerning ourselves with faulty equipment or the stresses that come with leasing a building.
