Today we’d like to introduce you to LaTanya “Nikki” Miles.
Hi LaTanya “Nikki”, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I actually got into this work unintentionally — but purposefully aligned.
Back in 2011, I was laid off from the oil & gas industry. At the time, it felt like a setback. But looking back, it was really a redirection. I’d always been the go-to person in my family and circle for resumes, career advice, interview prep — long before I ever had a title for it. So when I got laid off, I made a promise to myself that my next move would be intentional — I wanted to get paid to do what I naturally did well.
That same year, I launched TailorMade Resumes & Career Development. And shortly after, I landed my first official Career Services Advisor role at Remington College. That opened the door for me into higher education career services. From there, I continued in the vocational sector for several years, eventually earning the opportunity to join Brazosport College where I served for 11 years — supporting students in both career advising and academic advising.
Throughout all of those transitions, TailorMade never stopped. I built it alongside my full-time work — and it grew because it was aligned to who I am. Helping people reposition, see possibility, and get unstuck never felt like work to me — it’s where I thrive.
So my story is really about turning something that could’ve discouraged me into the catalyst for the work I was designed to do — and every step since then has continued to expand that purpose, that impact, and that calling.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road — and honestly, I don’t think entrepreneurship or career development work ever truly is. You can have the strongest branding, the best strategy, the marketing, the pricing, the portfolio — but the real challenge isn’t the business itself. The real struggle has been getting people to genuinely invest in themselves.
So many job seekers don’t realize that working with a professional resume writer or career strategist is not just a “document service”… it’s a mindset shift. You’re asking someone to believe they deserve better, believe their experience is valuable, and believe that the right role actually exists for them. And for many people — that alone is the barrier.
There were seasons where I had to learn patience. Seasons where I was educating my audience more than I was selling to them. Seasons where I had to build credibility one client at a time and trust that impact would compound. But every challenge taught me something: people don’t just need strategy, they need confidence, clarity, language, and someone who believes in them when they are tired, discouraged, or overlooked.
Those moments — where a client gets the job, or finally sees themselves differently — is what kept me going through the struggles. Because the road wasn’t smooth, but it was transformative, and it made me a better practitioner, a better listener, and a better leader in this field.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
TailorMade Resumes & Career Development is built on the belief that everyone has a story worth hiring — they just need the language, clarity, and strategy to tell it well.
I specialize in resume rewrites, career branding, interview preparation, LinkedIn optimization and strategic career direction for early-career through mid and senior level professionals. What I’m known for most is the ability to take someone’s scattered experiences — and turn them into a clear, compelling, achievement-focused value message that positions them for higher-level opportunities.
What sets me apart is that I’m not transactional. I don’t just rewrite resumes — I help people rethink how they see themselves. I focus on confidence building, positioning strategy, and career elevation. I don’t believe in cookie-cutter templates — everything I do is personalized and rooted in the person’s true story, not what trend thinks they should say.
What I’m most proud of brand wise is the transformation. The “I never knew I could sound like this” moment. The “I finally see myself differently” moment. The tears. The clarity. The shift. That is what TailorMade exists for — not just to help someone apply to more jobs, but to step into the version of themselves they were always capable of becoming.
I want readers to know that TailorMade isn’t just about documents — it’s about identity, alignment, and access. When your story is told the right way, doors open that you didn’t even know existed.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People can work with me in a few different ways. Individuals can book 1:1 resume rewrites, LinkedIn branding, career coaching or interview preparation directly through TailorMade Resumes & Career Development. I also partner with colleges, workforce agencies, and community organizations to host workshops, career readiness seminars, and personalized career branding intensives for their students, job seekers, or staff.
Collaboration is big for me — especially with employers, organizations, and thought partners who want to be more intentional about access, equity in hiring, and real-world talent development. I love working with hiring managers, HR teams, and industry partners to improve candidate pipelines, do guest employer talks, co-create training content, or build more equitable hiring touchpoints.
I’m also expanding my brand by connecting with schools — traditional, nontraditional, and home school communities — to introduce career development earlier and in more inclusive spaces. I would love to do more speaking engagements, podcasts, community conversations, workshops, and branded partnerships in 2026 and beyond. And as I continue to strengthen and elevate my marketing and brand presence, I welcome collaboration around that strategy as well.
And support doesn’t always have to be financial — people can support by sharing my work, referring job seekers to TailorMade, bringing me in as a guest expert, and simply amplifying career confidence and upward mobility within their networks.
At the end of the day, my mission is simple: to help people transform how they see themselves professionally. Anyone who believes in that mission — and wants to move it forward — we can align and build together.
