Today we’d like to introduce you to Lawrence Willis.
Hi Lawrence , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
You know, my story’s not a straight line. I started out as a cop — ten years with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office. Back then, my focus was on protecting people. Making sure they made it home safe. But over time, I realized something: I was helping people survive day to day… not necessarily build a better future.
I came from a little town called Iota, Louisiana — population about 1,500. Not exactly the big city, but it’s where I learned what hard work and community really mean. From there, I went on to the field and eventually the police station, where I served for a decade.
I competed on the 2007 USA World Team in the triple jump and had the honor of being the best triple jumper in the country at the 2010 USA Indoor Championships. That part of my life taught me about discipline, drive, and what it really means to push past limits.
When I transitioned into financial services in September 2015, it was a whole new world for me. I didn’t come from a financial background. I came from service, structure, and sports. But I was hungry to learn. I got licensed. Life insurance License, Series 6,63,26, Mortgage Loan Originator, and Series 65, I studied every night, and eventually built something I’m proud of today — a business that helps families not just properly protect themselves, but truly build a legacy and achieve financial independence.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth? Not even close. There were times I questioned if I was built for this. Times when rejection felt heavier than any weight I lifted on the track.
I remember nights when Myesha and I were trying to figure out how to balance family, business, and just… life. Building a business from scratch — especially one that deals with money — means you’re dealing with people’s fears, their regrets, and their dreams all at once. It’s not just numbers. It’s emotions.
But that’s also what makes it worth it. Every “no” taught me something. Every challenge made me sharper. And honestly, those rough patches shaped the leader I am today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We run a financial services firm based in Bellaire, Texas. What we do is simple at its core: we help families make smarter financial decisions so they can build wealth — not just for themselves, but for generations to come.
We specialize in life insurance, investments, and retirement planning — things that sound intimidating, but really come down to one question: What kind of future do you want to create for your family?
What sets us apart isn’t just the services we offer — it’s how we do it. We take the time to educate our clients. To break down complex financial concepts into plain English. Because I believe people don’t need to be “sold” on financial products. They need to be taught. When you understand how money works, you make better choices.
Brand-wise, I’m proud that people see us as real, approachable, and trustworthy. We’re not wearing suits pretending to be perfect. We’re just real people who care deeply about helping others take control of their financial lives.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Hands down — persistence.
Whether it was training for years to become one of the best in the nation, serving my community as a police officer, or building this business from the ground up… the one thing that’s always carried me through is the refusal to quit.
You can teach skills. You can learn the business. But you can’t teach hunger. You either have that fire to keep going — even when things don’t go your way — or you don’t. And I’ve learned that the people who win in life are the ones who just don’t stop showing up.
