Check Out Charity Selvey’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charity Selvey.

Hi Charity, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve loved planning events since the 7th grade when I planned my first surprise party for one of my teachers. The excitement of creating a space to celebrate brought me pure joy! I became the friend you would call to decorate. And those parties and celebrations always made me happy! So, I decided to make it official in 2020, and Demi Alexandra Events was born. Since then, I’ve learned how to navigate the events industry, learn new skills like working with balloons, design beautiful floral arrangements, and execute a flawless event with a stunning photo op. And I’m still learning and growing and leaning into perfecting my craft, because this is where I’m supposed to be.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The events industry is definitely a roller coaster. High highs and low lows. There are so many companies in my area who do the same thing I do, so it’s easy to question your why. But I have to remind myself that what is for me is FOR ME! And when I focus on that and trust and let God lead me, the blessings follow.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I worked in Human Resources for over 12 years, because I loved working with people, helping them find their career paths, and being a mentor to employees. Those experiences prepared me to work with people from all levels. And I understand that every person plays an important role in executing…whether it’s a project or event. So moving to the events industry wasn’t much of a stretch. Now I help clients bring their vision to life…from intimate birthday celebrations to corporate events! And the great part is that I do a little bit of everything with events and have some great vendor friends, so consider me a one stop shop. I’m the coordinator planning your event and keeping all the pieces moving, the designer creating a fabulous look, and the precise executor you didn’t know you needed to hire! I’m proud of how far I’ve come, but even prouder and excited about what God has planned for Demi Alexandra Events in the future.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I’d say find what works for you. Take classes, see which industry leaders you identify with, and form those bonds so you can create a special network. This is key! When I’ve had an opportunity to collaborate with other like-minded vendors, the end result has been amazing. Because I understand I don’t have to be an expert in every area to pull off a great event…but I do need to work with those who can help bring the vision to life. My goal is ALWAYS to exceed the client’s expectations and form relationships that keep them coming back for future events.
