Today we’d like to introduce you to Mynika Collins.
Hi Mynika, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always considered myself to be a creative person. Growing up as a kid, I could always be found writing, reading, sketching, and learning ways to use technology. Fast forward to now, and guess what? Yes, I’m still engaging in those activities!
I’ve always enjoyed self-expression through creative means. In 2018, I started using Yelp more frequently highlighting businesses through written reviews and photos. I’ve been a member of the Yelp Elite Squad for the past eight years.
In February of 2021, I started a book blog on Instagram (better known as #Bookstagram) to showcase my love of literature. I’ve found great joy, solace, and community through this passion project.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth? Not necessarily, however it hasn’t been the most challenging either. Because I enjoy what I’m doing and there is no one in charge of my creative expression but me, it gives me the ability to create freely. Once I move through my perfectionist tendencies, I’m able to create with ease.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and I currently work as an Embedded Clinician supporting medical students with their mental health and wellness. I build rapport with students, encourage them to advocate for themselves, and hold space for them during their most vulnerable moments. My therapeutic approach is culturally affirming, judgment free, and person-centered.
Additionally, I incorporate literature as a therapeutic tool to support emotional insight, empathy, and self-reflection. I lead with creativity and I honor students personal narratives by meeting them where they are. Your story is your power.
