Meet Ta’Dario Woods of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ta’Dario Woods.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?

My journey began at Grambling State University, where I majored in Biology with dreams of becoming an Environmental Scientist. But during my junior and senior years, my path started to shift. After witnessing the effects of mental health challenges in my family and among friends. I became deeply interested in understanding the human mind and behavior. After graduating, I decided to follow that interest and pursue employment in mental health to gain more knowledge. After gaining experience, I eventually moved to Houston, Texas, seeking both better opportunities and a higher quality of life. I kept building my skills by continuing to work in the field, attending networking events, and finding new ways to learn. Over time, my passion grew, and I felt motivated to push myself even more. Thus, leading towards enrollment at Walden University, where I earned my Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. From there, I became a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC), and a National Certified Counselor (NCC).

As my passion and experience grew, I felt inspired to take the next step. I am currently enrolled at Walden University, pursuing a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision to further deepen my knowledge and leadership within the profession. Today, as the founder of Woods Wellness & Counseling, PLLC, I’m dedicated to creating lasting social change and promoting mental wellness for individuals, families, and communities alike.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As Robert Frost wrote, “ I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference”. Looking back, that line mirrors my own journey more than I ever expected. I never realized how emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually demanding this journey would be. Throughout both my academic years and professional experiences, I often questioned my own abilities, strength, and resilience as I cared for patients, clients, family, and friends—all while trying to maintain my own mental and emotional well-being. These trials and tribulations have tested my faith many times, but through it all, God reminded me that He had a greater purpose for me!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a man of many talents, I’ve had the privilege of wearing many hats and exploring a variety of roles that have shaped my growth. I’ve served as a Clinical Director for children, adolescents, and adults of mental health services , a Treatment Director overseeing multiple residential treatment centers, mentorship, advisory and consulting to many clinicians and businesses across Houston. Beyond these roles, I’ve also shared my passion for mental health through advocacy, public speaking and radio show appearances, hoping to bring greater awareness and understanding to the challenges many face in our communities.

In my clinical practice, I provide mental health services to individuals across diverse backgrounds, with a particular focus on supporting Houston’s foster care and adoption population through Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and other tailored therapeutic approaches. Through this work, I have developed a network of licensed professionals with whom I have established mentoring relationships—both as a mentor and a mentee—and have continued to cultivate meaningful professional connections.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
From my experiences, I believe the mental health field will continue to grow and change over the next 5 to 10 years, with more people seeking services and a stronger focus on holistic care that addresses emotional, mental, and spiritual wellness. Technology and telehealth will make support more accessible, while training and mentorship for the next generation of counselors will become increasingly important. I also see advocacy and community engagement playing a bigger role in promoting mental wellness and addressing social inequities. With my background in clinical work, leadership, and public outreach, I’m excited to be part of these developments and contribute to meaningful, lasting change in the field.
